  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes. I have learned and got comfortable with SQL language where I can extract data from our database and have learnt how to investigate and manipulate data. I have had good exposure to Qliksense where I have now built several Apps for business use, including our department MI metrics, used for quarterly reporting. I have also learnt other languages as part of the apprenticeship and gained improved understanding of Data science in general.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy working with data and learning how to use different applications, which I would not otherwise have the confidence or exposure to learn. The tutors have been fantastic in providing real life experiences and relevance to the work place. The project work has been hard but enjoyable at the same time.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure was confusing at first, but once I was up and running everything fell into place. The mentoring system worked very well, to provide guidance and help with objective setting. The remote classrooms worked much better than attending classes, as the sessions were very interactive but had a good flow to them. The standard of teaching was excellent and made the sessions interesting.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer has been fantastic in providing me with this opportunity. My manager has been engaged in the activities I am performing and have tried to free up time in a busy schedule, so I can concentrate on progress with Data Analytics. They are now providing good opportunities to be involved in project work which is helping me develop new skills and use the skills I have learnt through the apprenticeship.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider has scheduled monthly sessions to review progress and align with the required objectives. There was initially alot of paperwork to fill out and to provide which the provider was able to guide me. There were times where I have had to provide some documentation more than once, or not had responses to my questions, however overall the service has been helpful.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I am alot more confident in using different applications. My motivation to investigate and learn new skills has improved, allowing me to make progress with projects which will benefit the business. The data analytics course has also guided me to use sources such as youtube to develop new skills. The course has taught me that I will always be learning.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Before lockdown there were alot of events such as sports days and team building days. There are now regular communications to provide opportunities to network from home by attending online events. The company is very encouraging of personal development and focused on improving mental and personal health through extra-curricular activities.

  • 9a. Would you recommend RSA Insurance Ltd to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The company has a great culture which promotes a good work-life balance. Currently we are in a very busy period but my managers are genuinely supportive to ensure my physical and mental health is protected. The people at RSA are very open and honest which promotes a positive workplace culture. Lockdown has meant a different way of working and RSA have been very supportive of this transition.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to RSA Insurance Ltd?
  • RSA is a big company which employs people with different experiences. I have worked in many different companies and RSA is one of the best in terms of the people and the culture. The system infrastructure is behind the times, leading to many manual processes but there is scope for people to come in with new ideas, and better ways of working.
