  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a day to day basis I quite often will complete a wide array of tasks ranging from Admin to higher up tasks such as reports or accounts sheets. EY has specifically tailored systems for various work flows, of which I use on a daily basis to complete my work.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • This is fairly obvious. The answer is of course I have. New skills include a wide array of communication, teamwork and IT skills whereas I have further developed my own professional behaviour. Being in such a large firm requires a lot of time management and professional courtesy, which have been developed massively in my year within EY.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my work a lot, and the interactions with colleagues is really positive. I have to admit that balancing study with project deadlines and daily working life is very difficult, so you have to be prepared to work hard and long hours. If you can overcome that then you'll fit right in.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Overall the organisation has not been great. Obviously this is the first year where everything has been conducted digitally however the communication initially on how everything worked and what to do was not very well communicated. The exam structure is well integrated but overall this would be one area that needs improvement.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • This is rather impressive. The employer has a wide arrange of support available at any given time. Whether that's from colleagues, peers or even partners and HR. It's very easy to get into contact with anyone. Support for business trips and expenses is also a welcome addition and also very helpful.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Overall support here is good. There is a good array of online materials and the tutors are relatively easy to get hold of. A while after your exams however it becomes increasingly difficult to get hold of some of the tutors, but Kaplan does a good job at providing sufficient support.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • In my role I hardly use the exam I'm studying for, that being said I can see why you'd need it further down the line or in another line of work for example. That being said the whole course is relevant and the skills are also necessary for us.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes. These are mostly arranged by employees but there are plenty of 'societies' that you can become involved with. Social activities are paid for by EY and can be a wide array of activities. Networking events happen every year and on a smaller scale 5-A-Side football teams do exist and leagues can be played.

  • 9a. Would you recommend EY to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Excellent job prospect and also gives you some great experience of what working in a top firm with deadlines, targets and big bosses is really like. I think the qualifications you'd gain from it would also be very impressive and would set you up for life. Also the various perks and career potential are widely appreciated.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
  • Be prepared and know what you're getting into. This is a huge firm with a lot of expectation. It's no walk in the park so make sure this is what you want to do. In applying it's always good to be yourself and also make sure you're prepared for the various 'exam days' and also for the final interview. This will give you the best chance of being selected.
