Fibre Jointer Review

Start the day with a vehicle check, sign onto Myjobs, drive to the job location. Meet other team members and decide who is doing what jobs on the job pack. Jobs range from putting CBTS up poles to pulling cable in, making joints for the boxes and also splicing once the cbts and feeds have been introduced.

I have learnt how to use a a number of tools that I have never used before such as a drill and impact drivers. I have learnt how to splice fibre and also how to introduce cables into joints. I have learnt a lot about things I never knew before.

I find it really varied and enjoyable. There is so many new skills I am learning and it is great to be a able to gain these skills whilst also getting paid to get the qualification. I look forward to being able to further my skills in the next year

So far it seems really organised / structured. I have received lots of emails from my assessor and apprenticeship programme and all the future workshops and teams meetings have been booked in to our calendars. My Assessor seems very organised and plans far in advance so we know to keep dates free etc.

My employer / managers and supervisors have so far been really supportive and give me the time to complete anything that needs doing for my apprenticeship. My team members have been encouraging me to take photos for evidence whilst I am at work on the tools and everyone has been supportive

I have recieved many emails from my training provider since being employed by openreach earlier this year. All emails have been sent well in advance if something needs doing and they are more than happy to answer any questions that we have. I think they have been very supportive so far.

The qualification makes you think more about what you are doing and understnding why you are doing it. having to take photos and collect evidence of you doing your job means you make sure you are having a varied job list and not just sticking to what you do best.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.) - I have not seen any extra curricular activities as yet although we have been in lockdown due tot he pandemic so hopefully this will change in the coming weeks and months.

They have been great to work for so far. All my colleagues have been friendly and willing to help me learn. The company are great and provide you with everything you need. They have great benefits such as the pension, sharesave scheme but also discounts on BT products and other companys

Dont worry about not knowing about anything to do with the job as you will learn everything on the job. Have an open mind and be willing to get stuck in with any job and you will learn a lot. The company are great with lots of benefits like the pension and sharesave scheme.
