  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My job mainly consists of reception and admin related duties. I am also responsible for recording all invoices for the canteen and for ordering patient meals. Other responsibilities include: sorting annual leave for my team, ordering non food items when required, recording the 121s and appraisals (as I am a super user), covering the general office when required. I am also a fire marshall.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I think that I have learnt a wide range of new skills from my course. I have a better knowledge of management and understand what is required of me to be a manager. The skills I have learnt have helped me deal with a wide range of situations already, from helping the team adapt to change, to deescalating certain issues.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I do very much enjoy the programme. Sometimes I find it can be a lot due to working, running a household and having a young child too. but hopefully it will all pay off in the end. Some modules are easier than others, and having the course spread out like this makes it not as mentally taxing.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very well organised with the right portion of work given out each month. I think we are given plenty of time to complete each module too. Sometimes the modules don't follow each other in the correct order but I don't think it matters as I know we will cover all of them anyway.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I don't think I have asked for much help so far from my employer, but I do know that they are there to help me with anything that I may need. Different managers have assured me many times that they are always there to help and just a email/phonecall away, which is lovely.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I meet up with / have zoom calls with my tutor monthly and again I know that she is only an email or a phone call away if I needed her. During our session she regularly checks that I understand everything. I feel comfortable enough to ask for help if I needed.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I am sure that my qualification will help me perform my job better and it will most definitely help me feel more confident in the work that I deliver. There has been times when dealing with situations that I wonder what I could do to improve things, this course has definitely helped cover many areas and I can now see what I could have done differently.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We have plenty of extra curricular activities available to all staff at my work place. For example we have a gym, Pilates sessions, yoga sessions. I am sure there are many more that I am unaware of (just simply because I have not yet choose to take part in them).

  • 9a. Would you recommend NHS to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I have made such good friends working for the NHS. It is very much like a family unit and everyone is very supportive of each other. I feel confident enough to speak up if there is an issue and I believe help would always be given if I needed it.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NHS?
  • The main thing I would advise would be to take all the training offered to them. I have completed so much training (sometimes it feels like to much) but it has greatly widened my knowledge and most definitely comes in handy time and time again. You can work your way up the bands if you are willing to do this.
