  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role so far has largely consisted of assisting the team with simple tasks including changes of member details such as addresses and changes to member payrolls. So for in my development my role has had limited interaction with clients other than having to draft short emails but interaction with my team is frequent and helpful. Alongside these tasks I am completing ongoing training, enabling me to complete more complex tasks for my own team and introducing me to tasks from different schemes that I wouldn’t be familiar with collecting work from a variety of teams and people.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I've had to adapt and learn more skills in order to complete day to day tasks as the firm uses its own in house software that is unique and complex. The training includes frequent meetings and webinars surrounding the job role so I have learnt from those as well.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Yes I enjoy the programme and have had a great start to my 18 month Apprenticeship. All the staff are incredibly supportive, welcoming and friendly. You are trusted to start taking client based tasks and responsibilities within a week, having been given the basic needs and requirements to crack on and become part of the admin team. The training is detailed, precise and manages to provide sufficient information that is understandable for and isnt too much to the extent where it is overwhelming.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme came across as very well organised as we had a month long induction plan when starting. We were given independence when necessary for instance when planning study hours whilst training was pre-planned and organised to coincide with work done outside of study time. Support is always there if it is needed.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • To begin with everyone was very supportive and showed a great attitude towards supporting the apprentices. As the programme continued whilst the attitude and accessibility of support maintained its high level, more senior members slowly withdrew their support, allowing us to be more independent and have a closer relationship with mentors and managers and other integral members of our immediate respective teams.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • So far the support received in regard to qualification training has been of a high quality, support is easily accessed and we are given ample time to study outside of the responsibilities we have as members of a team. Advise is helpful and the training is precise, informative and enjoyable.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My learning as an apprentice is helping my day to day role as learning from my apprenticeship can be applied to new tasks given to me once a training exercise is complete. This is helpful for me as it consolidates the new knowledge and helps me in day to day roles.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are a variety of extra curricular activities and sports available to those who are interested as well as other additional benefits for staff. There are company events and social activities to partake in, or classes if that is a preference. There are lots of options that are available to us.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Barnett Waddingham to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Its a very warm, welcoming community that prides itself on its quality service and takes good care of its staff. I would recommend it to a younger audience, its a good place to start your career as there are lots of opportunities to build upwards and climb the hypothetical 'ladder'.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Barnett Waddingham?
  • The application process is thorough so present your best self and come to interviews well informed and with a positive attitude. Don't be too stressed about assessments as although they are important to the process, their complexity is within reason and the main focus is on you as an individual, give it your best shot and good luck.
