  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a day to day basis I work in the training school on site. As I am in my first year I am doing my Btec on a Monday. Throughout the rest of the week i will be in the workshop completing one of my rotations. Over a 4 week period we complete one rotation. In the rotation there are log books and assessment that must be completed. All rotations are designed to be useful out on the plant.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt lots of new skills, this includes welding, electronics, turning, electrical and fluid power. Throughout these main skills I have developed my understanding of how the company works and how I am expected to act when on site. I have developed my communication skills throughout my time at BMW along with other skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have really enjoyed my apprenticeship so far. There is a great atmosphere throughout the plant and training school. I enjoy all of the practical work and some of the paperwork that goes with it. I like coming to work as I enjoy learning the skills that I will need going into the future.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My apprentice program is very well organized. The whole year is structured so that we know what's coming next. The company is aware that things can sometime not go according to plan which means that they are more than willing to change the structure if need be. This is essential to make sure that we stay on track.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from my employer. They value my feedback on the program. If ever me or a fellow apprentice has an issue they always are willing to solve it and help us out. They always priorities are wellbeing and make sure that we have more than enough support to allow us to complete the program.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive an amazing amount of support from out training provider. They are always there to help you get to our qualification whether this is practical or theory side. They are very polite and always make sure we are comfortable in the training school and give us the help we require to get to our qualification.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Through out the first year i am solely in the training school. There is occasionally trips around the plant. From these trip i have seen maintenance activities taking place. These activities have ranges from electrical errors, programming errors or faults with the a mechanical, hydraulic or pneumatic system. From these trip i can see that the training will be very valuable as it will provide a starting point to work from.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are lots of extra curricular activities available through BMW. There is the apprentice newsletter which is run and author by apprentices. There are also charity events for example runs and cycling have been done in the past. The apprentices are encourage to get involved in an extracurricular activities or events.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BMW Group to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would suggest the BMW group to a friend as the training is really good. The company always welcome new ideas and everyone is polite and values your input. The company makes you feel valued as an employee which for a company of the size is most impressive. The company itself offers a great pension scheme along with additional benefits like the car scheme.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group?
  • When apply I would make sure I list example of my key skills as these example can give a big indicator to the company of what you are like as a person. It is important that you have good experiences beforehand and make sure that you show your passion about what you do or want to do.
