  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am an auditor, I work with teams to complete interim and year-end audits. I have calls with clients to discuss the processes at their company. I also use look at client accounts and verify them by following figures through accounts and ticking through invoices to ensure they have correctly been accounted for.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed my excel skils and overall computer skills. I have also gained a good understanding of basic accounting through my qualifications and on the job learning. The area where I have seen the most improvement is in my people skills, I have become much more confident in speaking to both colleagues and clients.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy learning about accounting and speaking to clients and colleagues. It has been harder to learn as so far I have only worked rom home but the firm has well adapted to this and overall I do not feel that there is anything I am not learning that I should be.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The qualifications and trainings are well structured however I think the day to day work is not structured enough at first as I often found myself not knowing what to do in my first few months at the firm when I had not been assigned specific work. I think that is just the reality of being a new joiner as now I am more established at the firm I am never not busy.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support. Everyone is so helpful and understanding of apprentices capabilities and willing to help you learn. There are often emails sent out to check on our mental health which is particularly important at the moment so I find that very ressauring that the firm are there to support you.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We receive lots of support, we have quarterly catch up calls to check on our progress as well has being given access to variety of online resources that are well structured and a great help in passing the exams. The teachers in the college online sessions are very helpful and good at what they do.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I think given the qualifications I have received so far are very basic and so is the work, I have not necessarily feel as though I have used what I have learnt in college in my day to day work yet however I feel as though it will soon come together.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are a range of social events arranged which I find particularly good because even though we have been in and out of lockdown, there are numerous virtual events arranged to keep people socialising and stop people feeling isolated. I have yet to join a professional netoworking evet however I am sure that they happen.

  • 9a. Would you recommend KPMG to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a great place to get qualifications and experience. You meet a range of people and learn lots of new skills. The work is tough and the hours can be long but it is rewarding and provides you with the skills you need to succeed in the corporate world.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to KPMG?
  • My advice would be to be yourself in the interview. I was very nervous for my interview but I didn't try to pretend I wasn't and quickly became more relaxed. I would say try your hardest in the tests that are part of the assessment as they are not too difficult but an easy way to lose out on the job if you do not take them seriously.
