  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role involves uploading xrays and MRI's to patients portfolios, ringing patients to make appointments for them. Answering the phone. Prepping clinics- where you check the clinics on for the day and make sure all relevant paperwork is needed for the day. Putting on patient referrals on to the system. Alongside attending apprentice workshops for business and completing apprentice work.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have improved on my attention to detail, you need to be able to check the mri reports and check they are right, you need to make sure you are accessing the right patient profile. I also make sure i follow the organisations policies on things such as GDPR. I have learnt the importance of communication so nothing gets interpreted and working as a team to get tasks done.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme, I enjoy doing my work duties each day. I find the industry interesting as a whole and I like that I work with a range of different people each day. Sometimes the day can be repetitive. My team help me if i get stuck on anything and they support me.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is fairly organised, the induction I was put on last minute with other people and felt a bit rushed, I had to leave the induction early to join another call to do with my apprenticeship. The training session I have had so far was good. I feel like the support could be better however i like the fact that the catch ups with your assessor are often.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I think I receive a fair amount of support. My manager checks in with me and asks how i am finding it. She also asks if theres anything I would like to learn. They seem happy to help me when i get stuck and answer all my questions. They also reassure me if there is something I feel unsure about.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive support and I know where they are if I need them, they reply quickly if I have any questions to ask. When we have a catch up call they ask if i have any queries etc. I feel a bit unsure about my first assignment I got set and feel like my assessor could of offered a bit more support when I reached out.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • With doing a qualification, you can learn on the job and learn more about the organisation and job tasks rather than being thrown in the deep end. If i didn't have the apprenticeship i think i wouldn't know as much about the organisation I work for and what is expected of me in the job role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I believe there was before COVID. I think they had staff social events and company events. With working for the NHS you can get discount on activities outside of work which is a plus. I think there will be more activities available when the pandemic improves. They do the Solent Awards where you can nominate someone who has done well for an award.

  • 9a. Would you recommend NHS to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I think It is a nice environment to work in, the people are nice and are there for you if you get stuck or need help. Within my apprenticeship i feel like they want to help me develop and improve and do the best in my apprenticeship as I can.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NHS?
  • To research the NHS and to research the specific department you are applying for, to get more of an insight of what to expect. Use the NHS specification on the application and then you can see what they are expecting from the successful applicant. In the interview be yourself and happy.
