  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a digital apprentice that works in the leeds office but now mostly working from home. I work in audit and analytics, most often I am working with data and creating bespoke solutions for our audit teams to use whilst in analytics. When I am in audit, I usually complete tasks based around cash, accounts payable and accounts receivable.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned many new skills whilst in data analytics as this is very hands on and a big learning curve. I have greatly developed my communication skills since being at EY. Audit has given me a keen eye for detail and helps me spot errors I would not have seen before.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my programme, from the day to day work in audit and analytics to the time we spend studying for our exams and assignments. I prefer working in analytics as this really pushes my knowledge and gives me a great desire to get a job done on time.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is quite well structured, however there has been resourcing issues in the past that have made it quite difficult sometimes sorting out whether we are in audit, analytics or on study leave. Overall, it has been well structured when this has been sorted out and it has been well structured further into the programme.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer, EY, gives great support and there are so many people that are there to listen no matter what. They are very understandable when having study leave and always happy to help with any queries or help we need with assignments that relate directly to our day to day work.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Support from our training provider, QA, has been varied, depending on instructor. Sometimes they are very happy to help but other times they offer little to no 1 on 1 support and out of workshops they can be unhelpful. However, when in workshops they have all been very helpful.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I think some of the modules such as Finance and accounting for non specialists are somewhat relevant and useful but quite a lot of the modules dont have much relevance in day to day work at the moment, however they may be useful further in my career as things change.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Some social activities take place online at the moment but not much due to the pandemic. More activities will take place once things are back to normal as there have been talks of more socials when everyone is back in the office. Sports teams at work don't really exist at the moment but they will do soon in the future and I may get involved in.

  • 9a. Would you recommend EY to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • EY is a great place to work with amazing people that make the experience well worth while. The learning is also great without having too much pressure on you as a person. Busy season brings out the best in you with all you have learned over your time at EY. EY is all around a great place to work and would highly recommend it.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
  • Come in with an open mind about a professional services firm. EY is a very professional place but has great social events that are less formal and the people make you feel right at home. You also don't have to be a genius to work at EY, never compare yourself to anyone else. Just be yourself and you will succeed.
