  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I oversee the day to day running of the home care company, I meet with prospective new service users and their families and answer any queries or concerns they have, I schedule staff for visits and ensure that all visits are completed, I am available to staff for any concerns that they may have

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have definitely learnt new skills while undertaking the course I have learnt about new coaching and mentoring models, looked in more depth at legislations, and I have also developed existing skills and knowledge throughout the apprenticeship. I have developed new skills around how to lead and manage a team effectively.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have found the programme difficult at times and challenging, I have struggled to meet deadlines at points through the programme but I have also achieved and hit all the targets and completed the work so this has given me a sense of achievement, I have enjoyed learning new information and over all the experience has been enjoyable.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is well structured and gives a clear outline of when things need to be completed and what needs to be completed, you can keep a good track on the progress of the programme and the practical hours via the bud application, the information given was mostly clear and concise.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer has been supportive through my learning journey and encouraged me throughout , they provided me with feedback and I was able to go to them with questions when completing certain parts of my course where I wasn’t so sure about what was required. They carried out reviews throughout the journey to check I was getting in ok and keeping on track to finish on time.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I had a mixed experience initially I unfortunately had 3 tutors in total, the 1st went off on maternity the 2nd was not with me long and gave very little support, however the 3rd tutor was excellent and supported me throughout and encouraged me, he was able to provide me with answers to things I wasn’t sure of and responded in a timely manner I felt extremely supported from the point of having the 3rd trainer.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification will allow me to progress further in my role, I will be able to take over the role of the current registered manager when she retires next year which was the purpose of completing the qualification. It will also opens doors in the future and enable me to progress further within the health and social care sector.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • My company does not currently provide any extra curricular activities however we are going thorough a worldwide pandemic so this is something which we have not been able to do for over a year as we are unable to get everyone together at the same time, the company has discussed the possibility of providing team building exercises.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Drewdales Homecare Services to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • The company is not like any other I have been employed by or worked for before, they are supportive in further education and progression within the work place they encourage learning. They have a relatively small staff turnover which I think speaks coloured for the way the staff are treated. They are a lovely company to work for


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Drewdales Homecare Services?
  • It’s a small company so reliability and flexibility is a must, being a pro active team member and supportive of your fellow teammates it’s very important to be a team player. The company also has a strong ethos of care throughout the company the service users at the forefront of everything they do and people who genuinely care about others is extremely important to the company.
