  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Role involves shadowing a Tata Employee in order to learn more about their roles and responsibilities I also under take and work on projects that are suitable to the area and aim to make improvements where ever possible. Attending Meetings, learning the process and undertaking maintenance activities where its possible.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I am currently studying towards my HND qualification having completed all assignments for the HNC qualification, I then aim to undertake the Degree once the HND is achieved. Also training courses in work on site such as gas awareness and hydraulics systems courses have been available to me when needed.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have extremely enjoyed my program at Tata Steel, it has allowed me to learn several new skills as well as meet new people and form working relationships with people in several different area. This has allowed me to have several contacts for inside and outside of the working environment.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My program is very well structured, I know who to talk to when i have an issue, i know my place within the team and the plan for my development. such as what area i am moving to next, as well as what i need to complete regarding college and nvq.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The support I recvieve is very good, whenever there is a problem with anyone i know who i can talk to to resolve it or to learn more about certain practices. everyone is happy to help and provide information, training and experience by giving you the lead and guiding you.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have monthly reviews with my training provider with regards to my NVQ qualification. He is able to give me guidance on my NVQ and point me in the right direction as to where my training should be taking me so that i am able to get the correct training.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The set of a assignments and questions that are set are almost all tailored towards the work place and can be translated into practice. However some modules do not seem to have much relevance my role in particular but most of them are very helpful and very transferable to the work place.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Tata do provide a lot of networking opportunities through the magnet group. In this group they run several activities such as sporting events and trips to places such as holland. they also do alot of charity related work in the form of selling good or raffling prizes and so on.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a very good company to work for. The employees are all more than willing to help with training and providing experience, the social side and fitting in with teams is also very easy and enjoyable as well as the qualifications gained and taught and executed to a high standard.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Tata Steel?
  • Make yourself comfortable in situations and do not be afraid to ask what someone is doing or why and how they are doing it. asking questions makes yourself know as well as shows a willingness and desire to learn and better the process and the people around you within work.
