  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On the British Airways 'Inspire' programme, I deliver talks in colleges, industry events and career stands to promote opportunities in the British Airways work experience departments and future careers in the company. I represent the British Airways brand professionally and enjoy interviewing potential work experience candidates. I often feature on BA stands at career and corporate events, using the experiences of my own work placement and my personal expertise on the aviation industry to personally inform students on career oppurtunities within BA. I mentor, guide and inspire students to follow their dreams and passions, typically working towards a career within BA in the future.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I love it! It's great for young people to have a group of like-minded friends and colleagues who are knowledgeable and driven. My mentors are so brilliant, only ever a text away and are constant sources of motivation and appreciation. The programme is dynamic and offers many opportunities

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very well organised, I know exactly what opportunities or events I can get involved with each month after they are sent in a very organised email or google doc. I also enjoyed the structure of having mentoring groups before the COVID-19 pandemic, and look forward to reintroducing this.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive lots of support from my employer. This is often with a call or an email if I have any questions, and in person I am always taken care of and appreciated. My managers provide training in person and supplementary materials online, and are always available for character references

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive lots of support from a training provider as there are always workshops and opportunities to get involved with. BA run a lot of employability workshops which make me feel more comfortable when preparing for interviews and applications, and there are always CV building materials, LinkedIn guides to help navigate

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • As the result of the employability workshops I now feel confident on the things I need to do and the steps I need to take to get me where I want to be in the future. I also believe I have a strong LinkedIn profile as a result of such sessions and a strong CV due to the experiences offered to me.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We often participate in many charity events. Recently for Red Nose Day we walked over 300 miles collectively. In the past we have fundraised in BA headquarters selling Christmas cards and other merchandise for Flying Start charity. In 2018 we had the opportunity to climb the Accelormittal orbit in London's Queen Elizabeth Park! Christmas parties and outings are always fun too.

  • 9a. Would you recommend British Airways to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • As a result of my work with BA, I feel ahead of my peers not only in terms of life experience (getting up on time, having responsibilities and deadlines), but also professional experience. Even the simple skills I have learnt such as how to write a professional email or communicate effectively with colleagues have been beneficial already. I have met some amazing people in BA and I feel confident that when I graduate I will continue my development within the company

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to British Airways?
  • When applying to BA, definitely consider the vast variety of roles on offer. BA is such a big company, meaning there are so many places for one to fit in. Ahead of the interview, make sure to do research on the company and answer questions with lots of examples to demonstrate your skills. Also, be passionate!
