  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work as an administration assistant. On a day to day basis in my role I will register new patients at the surgery, process letters we receive from hospitals. I also deduct patients that have moved out of area or have deceased. I cover reception when our main receptionist is not in. I also deal with our EDI Log which involves patient registration status. I deal with tasks which involve many different things.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I definitely have developed skills using computers and all the different features. For example Microsoft excel and word. I have also understood our practice system. I have become more confident since starting at the surgery. I have really learnt how to organise and prioritise my work.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is well structured. Me and my tutor have sessions at the start of each month where I will learn about the tasks I need to complete for this month. I will then attempt the tasks and if I may get stuck I feel comfortable approaching my tutor for help.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel my college work helps me in my role as I look at things in more depth which I may not have if I didn't complete set tasks. Such as understanding more policies and how I use them in my role. Looking at my surgery's mission statement and their visions. It also challenges me to learn new things such as I needed to learn more skills on excel and having to complete a college task on it really helped me to do so.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I am unsure if we have any extra-curricular activities as the moment we are in the coronavirus pandemic so any they did have would not be going ahead at this time. This is definitely something I will investigate!

  • 9a. Would you recommend NHS to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend working in the NHS as I feel you are treated very fairly and you are always meeting new people which is exciting. There are also financial benefits to working in the NHS such as the NHS pension scheme.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NHS?
  • To include all your skills and if you don't have many then to learn more! Don't rush your application and make sure you double check everything. Don't forget to include any extra-curricular activities you may have participated in or any volunteering.
