  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I scan, archive and manage data for Project Choice, within HEE. My role also includes sending out letters and emails. I also print large quantities of worksheets and sort them.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt how to organise my goals as well as objectives, I am only just getting my teeth into the education assignments, however it looks promising.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme is fine, the BUD website is a good visual organiser of tasks to be done or completed, however I find a lot of tasks have questions that are difficult to answer in a conventional manner, such as how would you achieve a goal and future planning, without knowledge or context of.. how.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Well it was a rocky start at the beginning the singing up process was easy, but due to a myriad of circumstances I ended up going through 3 trainers over a period of 4 months. This wasn't really paragons fault, but it was difficult to orient for the first 3 months. The trainer I have now though is very reliable and we check up often.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employers are very understanding and unless its a particularly busy week they let me get on with my apprenticeship work, which is made easier due to working from home as I can swap between tasks at will. However a lot of the apprenticeships aspects require employee/manager interaction so in some ways it suffers because of it. But they are very supportive.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I did not receive much support at the beginning as my first tutor was made redundant and my second moved careers. It was difficult because I didn't really understand what was required for the monthly reports as well as the term updates. But over time I began to understand how to structure and what was required, I get a lot of support now from my current tutor.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel like I have only dipped my toes into the water but I've already seen some improvements in my documentation. To remember what I've done as training through the month I document tasks to use as evidence for my monthly reports for the programme, which helps me remember what is still pending and what has been done.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I imagine there is, the NHS always has emails and newsletters and such, I'm not especially a.. extra-curricular kind of guy but maybe I'll join one, one day if I feel like getting involved.

  • 9a. Would you recommend NHS to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Health education England and the NHS as a whole is a great education, its like a large internal family. The benefits and colleagues are all great. Your contracts can become permanent so instead of being made redundant you are seconded onto another project or office. Its a very friendly and lovely work environment as well, I highly recommend.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NHS?
  • At least the offices I've seen the atmosphere and general sentiment is always positive, If I was to give a, advice it would be to get involved through work experience or volunteering for things within the NHS, they look and this and think this person is here to help and for the long haul. They are reliable, which gives an edge over the competition. Its also a very large organisation such a large variety.
