  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My Role: Building Services Engineer Apprentice My role is to design, install and maintain the services that allow a building to do what it's designed to. Day-to-day basis roles: - I design building layouts on specialist computer-aided design (CAD) software. - I work with detailed diagrams, plans and drawings - Liaise closely with other professionals, including structural engineers, builders, architects and surveyors. - Attend a range of project group and technical meetings. - Lighting Calculations using specialist lighting software; Dialux.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many new skills such as using specialist Computer Aided Design (CAD) and specialist lighting software. I have also learnt and currently learning about electrical engineering and mechanical engineering. On the other hand, I have developed my time management skills. Other skills that i have developed include my problem solving ability. My existing communication skills have also developed. Similarly, my ability to work as part of a team has improved, alongside my analytical skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy everything about my programme. I work with a great team of individuals who strive to help me through my work and my education. My day-to-day basis is exciting as each day is different with different problems to solve. I also enjoy my programme highly because It has a positive company culture, that has values that I adhere. I also enjoy getting out to construction sites and meeting a range of new people quite regularly.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme that I am on is very organised and well structured. The programme has plenty of support by setting up support sessions and study sessions which are set up weekly. The programme consists of a lot of training and studying that improves my technical ability and knowledge; giving me a clear and specific route to follow. I have been delegated a range of mentors and to help me with individual or personal subjects during the programme.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive an unlimited amount of support from the employer during my programme. The manager consistently gives me support monthly if not weekly. I also receive loads of support from my HR team as they focus and help me with my education. Each individual mentor assigned to me gives me support daily. The employer have always shown an interest towards supporting me during the programme. Finally the guidance I get when coming across a problem is outstanding.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • When working towards my qualifications, my training mentor and provider provides me so much outstanding support when it comes to my education. I have a tutor and training mentor that supports me daily/ weekly during my programme. They provide me a with a wide range of support accessibility. I receive so much great support when coming across problems and problem solving, giving me guidance throughout. The attitude is always amazing and supportive and I really enjoy it.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that the qualification through my provider is the upmost important thing, that helps me perform so much better in my role. I have learnt so much from my apprenticeship that helps me majorly on my day-to-day basis roles. Most of the theory learnt from my provider has been put into practice on a daily scale, giving me a much better understanding and knowledge about my role, whilst also understanding of the importance in completing my qualifications.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • At my work, there are multiple extra curricular activities and social activities to get involved into. Team and company bonding sessions are set up monthly these can include days out, fun events, sports or even leisure . My work also host and attend a lot of company events which they get me involved in. There are loads of opportunities to get involved with voluntary activities/ initiatives, where you can help out your local schools or other services within your area.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would definitely get my friends to work here because I would gain many benefits personally. My work offers you a bonus if your friends joins. I would also refer my friends as its a great and friendly place to work, where you can make new friends and acquaintances, they could also gain more or even better educational qualifications for free in which the workplace would help them towards their career. Finally another reason for referring my friends is due to to it being local to where I live.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Troup Bywaters + Anders?
  • There are multiple tips and advice i would give to others when applying to Troup Bywaters + Anders. My first advice would be to make your application easy to ready. Have a good general knowledge of mathematics. Make sure you have perfect spelling and grammar. Be positive and passionate when interviewing, ensure that you demonstrate interest towards the company. Show that you have good problem-solving skills show you have the ability to work under pressure at work.
