  • 1. Please give an overview of what your work experience involved:
  • I found this experience was very insightful as it gave me lots of knowledge and useful information that will help me further my application towards EY before the assessment centre. Due to the covid-19 pandemic, the work experience involved joining webinars to learn useful information and then we had a chance to review a case study to have an understanding of the kind of activities that would take place within a typical day as an employee.

  • 2. What training and skills development did you learn from your work experience?
  • From the experience, I gained a lot of knowledge of the kind of skills that would be important to be a successful employee within EY which includes business presenting, global acumen, confidence and business writing. Due to us not being able to go into the offices, we instead found ways that would help us boost these skills to help us be a better applicant for the future which was very handy as it allows me to focus on the kind of skills that I will require to improve on.

  • 3. To what extent did you enjoy your work experience?
  • I loved the Ey Business Academy due to the variety of task and webinars that we were able to take part in. Each session allowed me to learn new information that will be very handy for my future and for me to have a better chance at gaining an apprenticeship with EY. The employees from EY were all really friendly and were clear and informative which helped me to understand what they were saying which has helped to improve my skills.

  • 4. How well organised was your work experience?
  • I found that the work experience was very organised especially as the work experience was originally due to take place in the regional office. However, EY did a fantastic job of running the business academy virtually allowing us as interns to be able to gain the knowledge that we would have been taught if we were to spend the week in the regional office. Every session was well timed which was excellent as they never over ran and gave us breaks to split sessions up.

  • 5. How much did you learn about the company culture and what it would be like to work there?
  • We learned a lot about how diverse of a culture that EY is which I found was very impressive as there seems to be no gender or race bias within the company. There are lots of social activities and every worker within EY is friendly and works to help others who may not have the specific knowledge required for a certain client. Not only do the employees work well individually, but they work great as part of a team which helps clients to succeed.

  • 6. How much did your work experience help you in deciding on your future career path?
  • I think that this work experience massively helped to decide on my future career path. Before this work experience, I had previous had a work experience with PwC and now that I have had both work experiences, I can now say that EY was a fantastic company and one that I would love to be a part of for many years. It also gave me insight to the role I applied for which has led me to have more knowledge when applying.

  • 7. Were you paid or reimbursed for this experience?
  • We were originally going to be paid £6.45 for 30 hours across 5 days which would be 6 hours per day. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the event has to take place virtually and so we were still paid £6.45 per hour but for 18 hours which was 3 days. I thought that this was a great addition as it showed that EY valued all of us interns like they would employees which allowed me to feel more comfortable working for them.

  • 8. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees?
  • Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we were not able to meet the employees in the regional offices which we were originally planned to do so. However, we were able to talk to employees across both the tax and assurance departments around how they found their progression through EY and the opportunities available for employees. We were also able to add the employees on LinkedIn meaning that we will be able to see relevant posts for us which will benefit my application.

  • 9a. Would you recommend EY to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • EY is a very friendly company who welcome employees of all race and of both genders. There is no discrimination and there is always other employees who would be more than happy to help if you were struggling. They issue you a buddy and a counsellor from day 1 which allows you to feel comfortable working for the business and allows for any questions to be answered regarding your specific job role. There are lots of opportunities to travel and work with a wide range of clients meaning that no day is the same which keeps employees entertained and motivated to work.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
  • I would tell anyone applying to EY to be them self as there is no discrimination against any workers within EY. I would also recommend that you give it a shot as I am aware there is a common misconception that accountancy is all around maths and numbers whereas that only makes up a small portion of what actually takes place within EY. I would also recommend that you did some research into the company to gain an insight into the values and the specific job role that you are applying for.
