1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I am an automation consultant and mainly develop processes that are suitable for automation using a tool called Blue Prism. I also work as a business analyst to find suitable processes and as a test analyst to test the processes.

2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Automation development, Watson conversation development, process discovery, basic programming development.

3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy my role but find my degree isn't that related to my daily role. However this does give me opportunity to learn new things.

4. How well organised/structured is your programme?

Could be structured better so that the degree is more related/there's more opportunity to put what I learn into practise. Overall is good though.

5. How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer is really supportive of my learning time and taking time off for studies/exams. Also they arrange quarterly meetings to check up on us/our progress.

6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

They give 3 extra days during exams which is helpful and are supportive during the year with our lectures. However I struggle when coursework is due with my workload.

7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

As I've said before, most modules I won't use in my daily role like network and security. But modules like project management and business analysis has helped with my role.

8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are social events I can get involved in but because I work on client site Monday-Thursday I can only attend events that are on a Friday. This also means I cannot join sports teams as they train during the week.

Yes

Theres a really good apprentice community with lots of social events.

10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to IBM?

Be confident and talk about what you've done so far at college and also any gaps in knowledge that you would like to fill. Get your application in early and be patient with the process (it takes a long time from submitting to actually getting a job).
