  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I look after point of sale marketing for independent and managed accounts across the UK. Day to day I work with design agencies and print/installation suppliers. I have a lot of catch up calls and emails to field sales team and suppliers. I attend meetings and take 'minutes' . I keep track of the budget and raise POs.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I've learnt how to deal with different stake holders and converse with a wide variety. Gained confidence, learnt how to be punctual and proactive. My excel and knowledge of artwork has grown. Also good insight to how a large organisation works. I feel I am using the knowledge I learnt at college in a textbook and actually putting them to use.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I find it really interesting, I have previously completed a level 4 diploma in fashion marketing which didn't challenge me at all. I feel very engaged and challenged and actually feel like I have learnt a lot. Lots of aspects are interesting and help me in the long future.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I feel my program is quite structured. I am a year in and now feel I have fully grasped how it works. When I first started my program it may have been better if I was given a 2 year plan or at least a plan of the steps I will take during the program and when my exams etc.. and key assignments will be done along the course - a little more insight. Although I find our system for setting assignments and monthly catch ups very good.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I would say I receive a decent amount of support as there are a lot of training programs you can do along side your job and apprenticeship. I do however feel we could have more support in terms of developing our skills, sometimes it is depends on line managers and their attitude towards you rather than support for apprentices as a whole at my organisation.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • A lot, I find they are very supportive in terms of resource and advice too. They provide you with text books , videos , ppts etc.. They support a lot and I feel I have enough resource to use to prepare me with assignments/exams. My tutor is very responsive which makes it easy to get support.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I am learning a lot of background knowledge and helps me piece together the organisation as a whole. I find it useful to see how teams are working and the reasoning behind it. I think the skills I am learning now will definitely help me in the future when I go into a more focussed role in the industry. It also helps to bring benefits to the business as I can use what I have learnt in my role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We have a lot of extra activities. There is a netball team, in the summer we do softball. We have team drinks and meals too. We also took a trip abroad for team building as a reward for hard-work. We have meetings every 3 months with the whole team for an overview and for fun activities to team build. There are often events which we are invited too which are a good way to network with people you wouldn't normally speak to. We have a summer and Christmas party too. There is also an apprentice community who organise outside of work get togethers too.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Unilever to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • There are many benefits, the culture is great. For a first office role I felt very comfortable and I have gained so many skills and a lot of knowledge. I feel confident that I have progressed and feel I can express ideas. It is an all round great place to work which I would recommend to anyone- apprentice or not. There are so many departments - so easier to move about and gain experience in different roles/departments. Great insight to a big organisation , so much resource to help you develop.. calls with VPs etc.. Training calls/programs, different roles, lots of people to connect with

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Unilever?
  • Be willing to try anything, there are many different roles which you would never even think of. Be confident and share your views and opinions, Unilever want you to bring your whole self to work. Have a genuine passion for the company/brands, understand them and their purpose as we are a purpose driven business. Think about what you can bring to the company and how you like to work.
