I am a Digital Engagement Apprentice at Unilever. I work with the Global Communications team and work internally by managing the intranet. I keep the site up to date with events, news and interesting topics employees may find useful about Unilever as a business.
I have learnt new IT skills and networking skills since being at Unilever. Unilever has taught me how to be more confident when interacting with new people, which has helped broaden my connections. My IT skills have been improved as I use software such as InDesign, Photoshop and Excel.
I really enjoy my programme because I get to learn new topics that I have not learnt before. I have learnt how to communicate effectively, how to write correctly, rules, regulations and procedures that the business has to follow to be effective.
My programme is well organised and the tasks are presented clearly. The tasks are always new to me so that makes them much more fun and interesting to research on.
I receive so much support from my employer. My team is very supportive of me and respect that Friday's are my study days for my apprenticeship work. I feel comfortable talking to my team if I face any issues at all at work and during my programme.
I do receive support from my training provider and always have new tasks that I haven't learnt before. On a few occasions when I have had questions there can be quite a delay in response time, but other than that it is good.
I have definitely learnt new skills from my training provider that I can use in my day to day role. These include communication skills, networking, learning rules and regulations and how to be a great employee.
At work there are opportunities to socialise and network with colleagues outside of work. Unilever also hosts events that employees can get involved in. There is the opportunity for apprentices to shadow jobs too to see if they would enjoy that role in the business.
Yes
Unilever is an amazing conglomerate company that I am proud to work for. There are so many opportunities to grow and develop my skill set in this business because employees are encouraged to try new things constantly. All of the employees are so friendly and welcoming to, which is great.
I would say to be yourself and be as confident as possible. Unilever loves ambitious people who are willing to learn and flourish in a huge business. It is important to be as keen as possible when faced with new tasks or challenges. Also, you have to believe in yourself!
