  • Complete health and safety site checks to ensure safe practices on site, pay sub contractors for the works, ensure what work has been carried out on site, site team meetings to discuss the works being carried out, update the subcontract register that is a list of workers on site. Review ACD

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, communication skills on working with new and different people of all different ages and here is how different skills and ways of working can be picked up off different people. Attention to detail on having to work our precise things. Listening skills as it is important to take note of everything that is going on site

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the fact that no 2 days are the same. There is so much. Variety and different experiences everyday, this makes the work load varied and different skills can be contributed. It’s a variety between on site and in site office work so health and safety aspects can be picked up.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Extremely. The fact that we are able to live away with our friends and have the full college experience in blocks rather than doing it locally, this way new people can be met and new friends can be made! The college blocks is organised and we know exactly where we’re at

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • A lot. The support from Leeds college of building is good and tutors are always there when we need support. The apprentice team are helpful too and are there when needed. Site team also help with our work learning on site

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Lots. Tutorials are completed when we’re away at college and extra help is there out side of college hours if needed. When working on site Individual projects are carried out and tutorials online and support is there when needed

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It helps to learn the basics and background to the role and all aspects of construction not just my specific job role. This helps me understand my daily job and gives a clearer insight into the world of construction! It is also a recognised qualification which will help me with my future career

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There is young bam which is for people on bam under the age of 30 and there are different themes each month such as STEM which gathers more people Together and more ideas can be shared with one another, this is also helping communication skills within bam especially young bam

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Amazing job opportunity, and learning whilst getting paid. Apprenticeships are definitely the way forward especially with bam as I have never heard any negative reviews about bam and they are trust worthy company and the majority of people who complete the apprenticeship trust bam and stay with them for a long time


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAM?
  • Be yourself! More women need to believe in themselves and break the stereotypical “male” roles! As anyone is able to be a civil engineer or quantity surveyor or work in the construction industry it they put their mind to it. Hard working people will fly in the industry especially with BAM
