  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Look after subcontract packages by completing monthly assessments and reviewing the contract. Completing monthly liability assessments and Cost to Completions. I am also responsible for updating the weekly monitoring programme to ensure we are staying on programme. Submitting reports on the progress of the project and submit to the management team.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned new skills on excel and learned new features within excel to be more proactive and complete task more efficiently. I have also learned the companies systems and learned how to use them which has enabled me to carry out day to day jobs. I have also learned new construction terminology

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my current programme as I have always shown a huge interest in construction, I also do well with numbers and like to work around finance. The apprenticeship is therefore beneficial to me

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure of the programme which BAM run is very well organised and structured. You are given all the dates which you will be attending college far in advance to make you aware. They will also plan your stay as they will book your hotel to ensure you have nothing to worry about whilst attending college.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer gives me a significant amount of support as I have access to 2 line managers, this includes one for while I'm at college and one for when I am on site meaning that you have a line manager which is relevant all the time. You also have access to a mentor to be able to support you.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive plenty of support whilst with my training provider, this is because we have access to plenty of resources including books, computers, other resources and also spaces where we can carry out additional learning. The college also offers mentors and 1 to 1 sessions get a better view and understanding

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • This helps me to perform better in my role, this is because I am able to achieve different tasks which I normally wouldnt do on site but I can do whilst with my training provider therefore giving me exposure to different areas of quantity surveying and helping me to gain experience in other areas which can become beneficial further down the line

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, regular sporting activities such as golf days and pool and football tournaments. There are also plenty of social events which anyone is able to attend to improve your well being.

  • Yes

  • Great company to work for with excellent opportunities, they help to boost your learning as much as possible and give you plenty of support throughout


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAM?
  • 100% recommend apply for the next BAM apprenticeship as it will give you great qualities to take into the workplace and provide you with a great start as a stepping stone to working in the construction industry.
