Creating formulations to test with polymers in an attempt to enhance the physical properties. The polymer will then be tested and results are compared.
I have learned about the different types of polymer as well as the properties that customers look for. Also many new skills have been learned in terms of physical work, including spinning fibre and blowing bottles.
My programme is a good mix of learning on the job, in which I get paid a good salary. But also a study environment for 20% of the working week. This allows me to get the best experience, as I can relate much of my studies to work.
The programme is very well organised. Materials are released in blocks, meaning they can be completed regardless of when my study time is given. Although there is lots of content to get through, tutors are very supportive and always happy to assist via telephone/email.
My employer is more than happy to give me the time I need to complete my studies. If I explain that I am slightly behind, they will allocate me more time to catch up. Also, as many of my team have chemistry degrees, they often assist with the challenging work.
The majority of people within my team have already gained Chemistry qualifications, meaning if I require help, it is easy to obtain. We share a mutualistic philosophy that, with my studying, I become more valuable to the company. Therefore, they are always ready to assist.
The studies from university have helped me develop understandings of colour, which is extremely helpful in my job role. Also, basic chemistry skills such as rearranging equations, finding and altering concentrations of formulations has proved valuable.
Social activities are very common and are shared via a monthly newsletter. Most of the time they are free for employees, unless the aim is to raise money for charity.

Everyone I have met here are all very friendly people who will offer an honest opinion of the workplace. They have all said they are happy to work here. There is a feeling of family regardless if people only view this as a job.
Be yourself, and be patient. If you believe you would enjoy the job, then it is a fantastic opportunity. But remember that happiness is the key to life.
