  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role as an apprentice client service adviser involves learning about what the client service adviser role entails and learning how to do the role effectively whether this is through theoretical or practical means. I also am sitting my insurance exams to become qualified to complete the above role once my apprenticeship ends.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Absolutely yes. Not only have I gained specific industry knowledge and learned how the insurance market works but I have learned invaluable professional skills which I do not feel are able to be learned without being in a professional working environment. These skills are ones which will stay with me forever and allow life after the apprenticeship to be as smooth and effective as possible.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • In my opinion I enjoy the apprenticeship scheme to the fullest extent. It is clear that the program is the beginning of my working life and I feel it is hard not to enjoy your day when you know this is the case. The people I work with and my training providers are all such amazing people and have supported me fully throughout.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Extremely. From the beginning it has been clear the steps needed to complete the programme. I have great mentors and a great coach whom have ensured I stay on track and am having a good time whilst doing so. A part of my apprenticeship is my examinations. I have always been ensured that I have the neccesary time to study for these examinations including study days and a study allowance of 20% of my time.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive as much support as an apprentice could possibly hope for. It is clear that my employer is investing in myself and my fellow apprentices as the future. We are provided with ample resources and time to make the apprenticeship as smooth and as useful as it could possibly be.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider has been excellent. The coach I am with now has been brilliant. He has ensured I have ample resources to pass my exams and am building a strong portfolio for the end of my apprenticeship. The training provider has a share point style site which features lots of resources and makes it extremely easy to track my study times and access apprenticeship tasks I need to complete. My coach is always stellar at responding to any queries I have also.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It first taught me how to be more professional, this was mainly during my induction. It has since vastly improved my industry specific knowledge which has given me a comprehensively better overview of what my job will entail and how I can have the best chance to do well in the long run. It also improves my confidence knowing I have a broader range of knowledge about my industry and allows me to tackle some slightly harder pieces of work.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • At my work there is an opportunity to do almost anything you would like. We have recently begun doing more charity vents which has been enjoyable and moral boosting. We are all friends so therefore like the spend time outside of work, whether it be a general social meet up or for a networking session.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Aon to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The company has been amazing from before I even stepped foot in the office. They have made it clear they will support me in doing anything I would like with my career and have invested resources and time in making sure whatever I do I am successful. Whilst doing this it has simultaneously been an enjoyable experience and I have met so many amazing people along the way.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aon?
  • Be yourself. A company like Aon are not looking for the exact same person in every hiring process. They want to be diverse and have an exciting future generation of employees. It is so important to have a clear interest in working for a company who wants to do amazingly. If people want this themselves it will not be difficult at all to find aligning values between yourself and the company.
