  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I run and write tests for my project and help set up equipment to enable myself and others to perform their role. A typical day includes setting up configuration for a test, running the test, completing the admin for the test. If the test requires updates I will then investigate the updates required by looking at requirements and talking to developers, update the test and upload the new test.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have both learnt new skills and also developed existing skills. I have learnt how to set up the equipment to the standards required to run the test, and how to capture evidence that requirements have been covered. I have improved my communication skills and knowledge of hardware and software.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme as it gives me lots of opportunities to learn new skills and to improve my weaknesses. I enjoy talking to new people and learning from them, and the people on my project are all very friendly and make me feel welcome. I enjoy the support from the other new members, who are always willing the help.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The induction was clear and structured and taught me all about the company and how it worked. There are many opportunities to do more training and support is easily accessible. My project is well organised and the structure is clear so I know who I need to speak to for different needs.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My manager is very supportive and is always available and willing to help me with any problems I may face. Support is easy to access and there are many opportunities to get help with different problems I may face. My team is supportive of me and if I need help they can always point me in the direction of someone who can help me.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • When I joined I was connected to a buddy who had completed the course beforehand and could answer any questions I had about the course, I was also assigned a mentor who was in contact with the university who could help guide me and could contact the university to gain guidance and support for me.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Some of the modules at University help me in my day to day job as they teach me the theory behind what I am doing at work and give me a deeper understanding of how my project works and how the work I am doing supports my project. It gives me an understanding of both the business and technical side of what my project does.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • The Sports and Social club provides many opportunities for you to get involved in many types of events, such as exercise, theatre and dining experiences, at a discounted rate. There are also company organised networking events to allow you to meet new people and expand your network. There are are volunteering initiatives that let you get involved with the community,

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I have received lots of support since joining the company and have had to chance to participate in many new experiences and to learn many new things. It has advanced my professional and personal skills and has given me the opportunity to try different roles which has given me a lot more experience


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to CGI?
  • Make sure to pay attention to the information you have been given, both for work and university. Make sure to relax and enjoy yourself on the assessment day and talk to lots of people to give you a good support network. Take advantage of all the opportunities offered to you.
