  • Manufacture and fabrication of prototype food production equipment using both manual and CNC Turning and Vertical Milling machinery, TIG Welding, and manual sheet metal fabrication methods.

  • Manufacturing process, such as Turning, Milling, Welding and Fabrication techniques. Material science and engineering mathematics. Use of CAD software for digital modelling/prototyping.

  • Thoroughly, an broad learning experience is provided with ample adaptability to include improvement opportunity.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Working with colleagues who did apprenticeships 30 years ago, the program lacks the same rigidity and content that the current curriculum contains.

  • Extensive support is provided in all aspects.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • NITAL appear to be struggling with day to day running of the qualification, with submitted work often being left 6 to 12 months without being marked.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Minimally, the majority of the EAL qualification seems to be about ticking boxes rather then demonstrating competency/knowledge.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, I join a running and outdoor callisthenics group at lunchtimes. Apprentice socials take place on a semi-regular basis and networking events also take place on an annual basis, at least.

  • Yes

  • The company is committed to developing the apprentice, not just to in their current role, but to create development opportunities for their future.

  • Do your research and try to demonstrate your drive to continually improve yourself.
