  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I organise workshops (Smart/Marketing Foundation) and monthly calls. This includes organising the venues, dates, number of participants, sorting out the catering, venue/ AV requirements, collating the attendance lists, providing participants with communications and providing participants with pre-work etc. I also have weekly catch up meetings with my Line Manager.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed my prioritisation skills because with organising several workshops, I needed to prioritise which workshops had to be focused on each day according to the deadline of certain tasks and the dates of the workshops. A skill I learnt was ownership such as being responsible for the workshops.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy the programme, the combination of studying and working is good for me. I believe I am learning a lot on my course and applying my learnings to my role. I have a good team and enjoy working in HR, I see myself doing this in the future.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is structured well. The induction was clear and I understood the overview of the programme. Since then, the support from my tutor has been good - We meet monthly to go through the work I've done and the next work. To improve, communication between the sessions would be good.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from my Line Manager, she takes into consideration that I do have to do my apprenticeship work as well as my HR work. So, this helps me with balancing my workload. I meet regularly with my apprenticeship mentor for overall support and guidance.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The support from my training provider is good. We have monthly meetings in order to go through any improvements and next steps. In terms of communication between the meetings, this could be improved. But otherwise, really enjoying it and getting good amounts of support.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I am learning a lot about policies and acts, which are very relevant to HR. I also conducted a SWOT analysis of myself for the apprenticeship, which included the apprenticeship and HR role. So I applied this in my catch up meeting when asked to review my strengths and weaknesses.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • As I am an apprentice, there have been regular apprentice networking events including during National Apprenticeship Week, all apprentices in the UK joined for socialising and networking. Also there has been an opportunity for me to join workshops I have organised as an observer/ participant.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Unilever to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Yes I would recommend Unilever because it is a well-established company and the company culture is very friendly, with a good work ethic. The apprenticeships are really good as well and is a good way to start your career. Lastly, the flexible working is really encouraged, which is a benefit.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Unilever?
  • The advice I would give is to bring your knowledge to the assessment centre, for example, if you want to work in HR, use HR key words in your group tasks. Also, once you start Unilever, to get involved in all opportunities thrown your way and to enjoy the experience.
