  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Since starting the lifetime apprenticeship I have been give the responsibility of providing the staff rota 3 weeks in advance. • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • If it wasnt for this programme I would be status quo. Stuck in a repetative job with no prospect of furthering my career or my knowledge of the business other than completing whatever is on academy online. This programme is a godsend for employees in my age bracket (53) who are willing to learn new things and if possible, move further up the ladder

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • After the initial sign up stage which was very slow, it has been all go and very well organised. Being appointed with your own personal trainer and having online classes for help with maths and English is a very good idea and helps immensely. Lifetime is a very well run organisation.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Support from me employer is virtually non existent. My Assistant hotel manager actually forgot I was even on this course and has only started to help me when Sarah (my trainer) stepped in. As for my Hotel Manager, since starting the course in September 2019, she has only ever asked how I am getting on twice.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • If and when I need support, Sarah has made herself available no matter what day or time it is. She is very understanding and calming in her approach. She is there with help for whatever reason you need and never ever complains if it's the simplest of questions you are asking.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It has enabled me to open my mind and release what I had buried after leaving school nearly 40 years ago. It has opened my eyes and allowed me to realise that I can achieve new things at my age. It has also made me more aware of things to look out for which I don't really notice on nightshift.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Nothing really. We do get some incentives where we can win a prize if we come top such as up selling breakfasts and meal deals but it is very hard for a night team member to win this. Other than that, the only social nights out are at Christmas where we all go for a meal as a team.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Whitbread to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a great company to work for and they do listen to you. Whether they act on your suggestions is a different matter lol. The only down side of working for whitbread is the pay rate. They would hold on to staff members a lot longer if they paid that bit more.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Whitbread?
  • Go for it. The company benefits are great. You are all treated equally and you also have the chance to further your career. There is plenty of online trading in the Acadamy online plus you are trained in first aid every 3 years. It's a perfect starting place for anyone interested in the hospitality business.
