  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As part of the apprenticeship we are in college for 5 days a weeka and we spend two days a week learning the theory side of welding and for the last 3 days we spend in the workshop working on learning and progressing our welding skills with all the help and advice that we need.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Since beginning my apprenticeship i have learnt many new skills and have improved some existing skills. I have learnt many new things about the theory side of welding and i have also improved my welding skills in the workshop with learning MIG welding TIG and MMA welding as well. Ive also made huge improvements with my own skills in the working conditions.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have really enjoyed my apprenticeship program upto now. I have really enjoyed learning the theoretical side of welding and also learning the skills behind being able to weld. We have also had plenty of support and help put in place to help me make sure that i understand what i am doing at all times and are getting the most from the apprenticeship.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My apprenticeship had been very well structured. For example we have been very realistic targets to meet and have also had other things that we need to complete as for example some presentations/meeting that where very well planned and organised so that we would be able to attend without there being a problem with our timetables.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer has put lots of support in place for me to be able to fix any problems that i may have and to help me when i have been stuck. For example my employer has put many things in place to help support me form anywhere from me needing help with my work all the way to me possibly needing any support with any personal issues i may be having.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Mh emplyer has put many things in place to help and support me with my training and has provided me with tutors that are very skilled and has many years of experience which has help me massively with my training as i have learned loads with my apprenticeship from the support that my employer has put in place.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel like my training provider has and is still teaching me loads of vital skills that are going to help me with my role. The skills that i am being taught are very beneficial and are giving me the confidence that i will be able to do a very well and structural strong weld.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I do not belive that we have any extra-curricular activities. However i belive this to be the correct choice in my personal opinion as we have a really busy schedule and i also believe that it is very important that we concentrate on learning and improving our welding skills as there is always more to learn.

  • Yes

  • I have recommended BAE Systems to friends as i belive that it is a great company to work for. They will invest time and money into you to give you the best opportunitys and get the best our of you. They want to help you become the best that you can become.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
  • I would give the advice to people applying to BAE to add as much information to your application as you can make sure that what you are applying for is what you want to do and mabey attend a college year to find out if that is what you would like to do as a career.
