I manage the month end P+L for TUI's Website as part of the Distribution team. This includes tracking credit card costs for the website for month end as well as completing Flash, Actuals & Forecast for all P+L lines relating to the website. I also support the Cruise team with reporting and analyst work, mainly focused on trading I provide weekly reporting information to other commercial teams and flag information that could be a prime factor in decisions regarding sales. In addition to this I support my direct line manager with Business partnering Marketing, I often get involved with month end processes and liaise with the marketing teams to track spend vs budget throughout the financial year.
I have developed a sound commercial acumen and understand the key factors that are involved in business decision making, this has come from being surrounded by like minded individuals who are professionals in their roles. Throughout my first 18 months now at TUI I have really harnessed my team playing attributes, most of the roles are team based and I am used to working as part of a close team helping each other to complete tasks and optimising results by playing to our strengths.
I love my apprenticeship programme. My apprentice peers are amazing and we have become a close knit group, we often revise together and take exams together. I enjoy being part of a small group of like minded individuals who have the same ambitions as myself. I would recommend my apprenticeship to others, there is a clear line of progression and I have learned so much in my first 18 months.
I would say my apprenticeship is rather organised, course dates and exams etc are planned well in advance and we receive enough notice to plan our weeks around this. I like the fact that I will rotate into different job roles every 18 months and I am looking forward to my next role. Having our training provider based in Cambridge can be slightly annoying as we often have to travel far to attend exams and certain sessions. I would appreciate if this becomes ore flexible in the near future.
I do feel supported in my apprenticeship as there are a range of contact points for different parts of my apprenticeship. I am lucky enough to have a group of apprentice colleagues with me, we are always communicating about training related questions & work experiences. I also have an assigned buddy in the business, we catch-up weekly and discuss performance & plans etc. In addition to this I have an assigned mentor, this is a senior member of the business and I will often catch-up with her on a monthly basis to discuss career progress and seek advice.
My tutor is amazing! She is really good at her job and really goes above and beyond, we often contact her outside of lecture times seeking help on tough questions and she never disappoints. The training provider themselves are good at sending reminders for dates etc. I have monthly catch-ups with my skills & development coach she will show me if I am on track with my apprenticeship lessons & portfolio etc so this is an added bonus that is really useful.
I am currently studying Level 4 AAT I have no doubt in the practicality of this qualification, from my first ever lessons I was able to see how this relates to my actual job role and this has always been the case. Studying AAT helps me to understand more about finance and how finance as a whole supports the business in decision making and financial position.
I am aware that there are extra-curricular activities going on after work, however I rarely take part in after work activities because I am often revising. I do feel there is a social society within the business and I feel part of this, as an apprentice I do not feel treated different from any other colleagues which is nice.
Yes
This is an amazing opportunity to be working alongside qualified professionals in producing real work and really supporting the business with decision making. The ethos here is really positive and I like the environment, staff are treated well and apprentices even more so. everyone has been so helpful and I have learned so much in just 18 months!
I would advise anyone thinking about applying to TUI to remember that our business is so broad and there are so many areas in which an apprentice can develop. Therefore I would strongly advise any applicant to attend one of the experience days for their area of interest, this will provide a great insight into the work undertaken in the area and the applicant will know what they are actually applying for and can be passionate about the application itself.
