I work in the Aviation Planning team, based in Aviation Support. My job role involves taking the flying programme changes from various team members from different departments, and putting them into a log format to be actioned in our system called Viking. I am then responsible for communicating these changes with the relevant customers, both internally and externally.
I have learnt lots since starting my apprenticeship, especially about the way in which the flying programme is built and maintained. In terms of skills, my excel skills have definitely improved as a lot of the job requires using excel documents to manipulate data. I have also developed my communication skills.
I am really enjoying my apprenticeship so far. I love having the mixture of learning and working, and how the learning aspect links into my daily job. The apprenticeship work is manageable alongside the job role that I am expected to do, and the competency elements are achieved through this. The opportunities I receive for being an apprentice is also great.
The apprenticeship programme is well structured with 7 knowledge units that need to be completed, and 14 competency units. My manager has experience with 3 previous apprentices before me, so knows the best examples to use to help me achieve these. With the introduction of an in-house assessor and the new smart assessor programme, it helps the programme be more organised.
I receive lots of support from my employer in regards to my apprenticeship work. My manager lets me have one day a week to complete my apprenticeship work, to ensure that I stay on top of it and don't fall behind; the team are all supportive of this. The apprenticeship team are also really supportive with the help that they give and work and time they put into the programme.
We receive resources through the online learning platform, these are there to assist us if we need help when completing any of the units. These are particularly helpful if you are stuck with starting a new task, and need some inspiration and a starting point for what to start researching or writing about.
I feel as though the qualification allows me to learn more about the way in which a business operates, so I don't feel as though it is helping me with my role now, however in the future it probably will. I am learning about the way in which a business is ran, which helps me to understand why the business does some of the things it does.
There is always something going on in the office! There is often activities going on in relation to what is happening within the business, such as launch week and the announcement of the acts for the 90's & 00's cruise. There is also the opportunities to get to network and meet people from other departments.
