  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As part of my role I have been working within the Specialised Services department of the Reward & Changes team. Amongst geenral tasks, I am required to attend the Daily Operational Review for my team every morning to discuss the workload within the team. If needs be, as well as liasing with my own team, I am required to converse with the whole of the business when the need arises. Consequently I have the responsibility to look after the Recruitment Authorisation folder, keep track of the webforms, and process them in the structure. My regular day requires doing my daily workload, supporting others, training & developing my own skills, and answering queries from across the business.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learn about HR as a whole, and have a far broader perspectiive of how the function supports the wider business. Further to that I have learned how the office environment works.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I think Nestle is a great company to work for. There is a real emphasis on developing your skills, and sharing knowledge whether you have been with the business 6 months or 6 years. Subsequently there is a real team focus throughout HR at Nestle. If you're unsure or have a question, there are people more than willing to answer your own questions. I was given a much larger responsibility that I was expecting, and was certainly not just reduced to doing work experience stereotypes. The negative was the fact, that due to the sensitivity and confidentiality invovled within HR it meant that access was often a problem. For parts of my programme there was not much I could do, due to access not being available.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Nestle?
  • I feel valued by Nestle. Even though time constraints mean Line Managers are often out of the office they're always concious of how your experience has been. Throughout my team I have recognised internally by team members for the contribution towards supporting the team workload. I was involved in a large task that invovled de-limiting positions within the Nestle structure as part of a data quality clean up.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My induction was very brief, however the basics of the business and the function were covered. I also think in times like this, too much information at ocne can be very over-whelming, especially when becoming a part of such a large business. Weekly meetings were subsequently organised so we could update and inform mentors how our week has been, and if there had been any issues. The support was always there if I needed it, be it from my own individual team or throughout the wider function.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • There was always support on hand if it needed to be. Everyone had a positive attitude when it came to support/problems, even if they were really simple/basic queries.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My mentor within my team was excellent. They were always on hand to support me, and grow my knowledge of the business. There were always accessible, and even if they were busy at the time, they would reply to my query later. There was a complete positive mental attitude throughout from everyone involved with supporting my development.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary was above the living wage so it would just about meet my living costs, however it would not leave me with much of a social/savings allowance. However, I thought for a work experience opportunity the salary was extremely reasonable, as many placements are often unpaid or they just pay for your travel/food costs.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Whilst I have been at nestle I have been involed at a team day within Nestle, and also a team day at an external location. The loecation of Nestle House is very close to the centre of work, so there are lots of opportunities for leisure purposes. Outside of work I go to the gym regularly, and catch up with friends & family.

  • 9. Would you recommend Nestle to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Nestle want to help you develop your skills. As well as putting the skills you alredy have in to practice, they want you to enhance your skills, and as a consequense devleop new skills. Nestle are really invested on preparing for the future, and the future often starts with candidates from organised programmes such as the work experience one.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Nestle?
  • I would reccommend putting real effort in to the programme. Make sure that you do your research in to the company, such as locations of offices & factories and what types of products Nestle produces. I think during interviews and assessment days, you need to show a willingness to work for company. Be positive about your skills and how you have put them in to action, regardless of whether somebody seems to have more experience than yourself. Before interviews try and think ahead of how you have put general skills in the practice, and it will really help within the interview process.
