  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role involves a variety of things, however every day is different and this is something I thoroughly enjoy. I am encouraged to get involved in as much as possible whether this is ER issues, employee welfare meetings, absence, training sessions, volunteering and much more. I get to interact with a variety of stakeholders and this makes my day to day role enjoyable.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I am currently carrying out my level 3 CIPD, which is working amazingly alongside my role. I am able to put into practice what I have learnt, this helps my development massively. It has also been noticed that my confidence has grown and I am a lot more confident in many different situations.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my programme. My team are always there for support and are always encouraging me to push myself and get involved in things I wouldn't normally. I find the culture of the company to be supportive and very welcoming. I enjoy my programme and I am proud to be working for Tarmac.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I feel I have massive amounts of support throughout my programme. I know I can go to many different people for help or support if I need any. I always ensure I am giving myself time each week to make sure I am up to date with my assignments, and this is supported by my line manager too.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive massive amounts of support from my employer. I have a good relationship with my line manager, so I know I can ask questions, ask for their viewpoint on anything I am unsure of. This seems to be the same for nearly everyone at Tarmac, they are willing and open to help and support you whenever it is needed. I currently don't have a mentor, but this is something Tarmac is looking into for me.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I enjoy the qualification that I am currently working towards, as I feel everything I am learning can be put into practice. My course is more of a long distance learning rather than a weekly programme. I enjoy the long distance aspect of the programme because it gives you time, along side your day to day role to carry out assignments and ask for support and receive it if it is needed.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that everything I am learning on my apprenticeship is helping me massively with my day to day role. I am given so many opportunities to put the theory I have learnt into practice. I know once I have completed my qualification I will know a lot more about my role and the industry.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I have heard of quite a few extra-curricular activities at work that employees can get involved in. I am currently carrying out some voluntary work through Tarmac at a local charity in Leicester. I do quite a few extra curricular activities outside of work, if I didn't then I would definitely get involved in the ones at work.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Tarmac to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Tarmac is a company I feel very proud to work for. There are so many people who are willing to help and support you whenever it is needed. There are amazing benefits that come with a role at Tarmac, but also so many opportunities to grow and develop. I have never looked back.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Tarmac?
  • The application process for apprenticeships is easy and straightforward, Tarmac take into account that not everyone applying for apprenticeships may have a CV due to lack of experience, so they use questions for your application form instead. I was made to feel at ease when attending my interview which made the experience and process a lot better.
