  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a day to day basis i present the site induction, i also present a briefing focused on behavioural awareness. I conduct inspections of site and write it up on our management system. I Write tool box talks and reports to be used across the sites and in the office.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes due to the fact a lot of my tasks have involved public speaking; my ability to present and confidence in front of other people has certainly improved. As well as this being exposed to site on a regular basis has improved my knowledge on the logistics of how a site runs and also my ability to spot and action hazards on site.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my program. This is because i am constantly challenged to improve or develop new skills. I have achieved things here that i did not expect when i started my programme. I believe i have developed in a professional matter and as a person, this has set me up well for a career i wish to pursue.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I believe my program is well organised. As an apprentice i sort of expected to only do the jobs nobody else wishes to do. However i have been pleasantly surprised that this is not the case. i feel like a valuable member of a team and that the work i do is very worth while.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive good support from my employer. On a closer level my manager is always happy to help and advise me, which has helped my confidence and professional development. My employers also offer many types of training which helps me widen my skill set and prepare me for a future within the industry

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider and i have regular meetings to monitor my progress. i also have coursework which i submit and my assessor will review it and email me any additions i could make to improve. i believe the level of support i receive is good and have no concerns in this area

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • even though my college work is not tailored to my job role, i still believe it helps me perform better. My college work gives me a better understanding of how to efficiently operate within the workplace and my workload explains ways to efficiently communicate and complete work assigned to me.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I do participate in extra-curricular activities. Weekly i play football with colleagues with helps me bond with the people i work with. As well as this i am also going to kiers head office for a networking event and will receive advice on how to progress my career in the right direction.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Kier Group to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • They are a reputable company that will teach you your trade at the highest possible standard. They also offer training to develop you as a person as well as a professional. Young people are an important part of Kiers workforce and this is apparent in the way i am treated at work.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Kier Group?
  • I would advise others applying to Kier group to have a clear vision of what you want to achieve. Being knowledgeable on this will help Kier tailor your development to improve you as much as possible. I would also recommend being confident as it is a competitive industry and you cant shy away from any challenges if you want to stand out.
