  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Day to day I help design and model, structures made for the built environment. I am also a first aider within the office which helps me make the contribution to the company and my colleagues around me. I enjoy me time and its great to see when you have worked from the beginning stages to that of final construction and you can say that's what your work has accomplished.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many new skills throughout my time at Mott MacDonald. i have been able to develop my industry knowledge, presentation skills, team working abilities and the ability to take on much more technical work that when i first started within Mott MacDonald. Mott MacDonald has given me the resources and tools to pursue targets i never dreamed of.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme very much as it is very relevant to the day to day work i do. but it also gives me a good overlooking basis into the industry and what else is out there. If i was to find a subject i was interested in, in university i could ask for exposure to that within the teams at Mott MacDonald.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme has been structured very well from both university and Mott MacDonald. one day a week i attend university and the other four days i am in work at Mott MacDonald. Both are very lenient with this structure and understand if more time is needed on certain areas, but extra learning is required so self motivation is a must.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Mott MacDonald will go to extreme lengths to support myself in everything i do and i am nothing but grateful for this opportunity. An example of this was i had a course with university which meant i would be out of work for a week and travelling to Liverpool every day. They were happy to give me the time off as study leave and pay for myself to stay in a hotel close to the university to save myself the travel back and forth.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The university is very helpful when needed and are very approachable outside of lectures. the only issue with this is as its a very long day in university (9AM-7PM) there isn't much time either side to grab one of them and have a chat outside of lessons on certain areas, otherwise i would have to travel to Liverpool for this specific need.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • There are units within my civil engineering which directly relate to that of my day to day job which is a great advantage for me. I started in transport planning but after studying for a while i realised there was no correlation so my employer put me in a different role and team so i could get the benefit of my university.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There is a sports and social team in work who organise many different events which everyone can get involved with. I found it very helpful to get to know my colleagues outside if work which ultimately leads to a high level of collaboration and higher standard of work being produced.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Mott MacDonald to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • As it has the flexibility and funding to help to achieve your goals of what a large company has but it has the morals of a small company in the fact that you are not just a number and unable to express yourself within the workplace. Mott MacDonald wants to help you achieve your goals and fulfil your potential now you have just got to put in the work.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mott MacDonald?
  • Get your applications in as soon as possible and don't waste a moments time. It is a great company to work for in both a progression aspect and a happiness aspect. It offers to help anyone they can and will help you reach what you are capable of. Id suggest you make sure you have a good level of self motivation and always want to strive to achieve more.
