My apprenticeship were the foundations to my working career. Going from school then college into a working environment was a massive challenge, with the structure and planned working apprentice this was a 4 year process mate easy. The apprenticeship programme was made easier with the mixture of practical, theory and life experiences.
The apprenticeship within Tata Steel then British Steel/Corus was a very well organised and detailed programme over 4 years. It include 4 years of college studying mechanical engineering and steel making process, whilst having work experience scheduled throughout the year. The 2nd, 3rd and 4th years were mainly work based with scheduled college days.
The support throughout the apprenticeship and throughout my working career has been first class. Further training and learning opportunities has been offered every year since. Training budget has always been available, even during the tough years. The work opportunities due to the size of the business and varied working conditions as excellent.
NVQ assessor were always available. Monthly one to one were complete with the opportunity to feedback on the concerns working and personnel.
