  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in the onsite support department and my day to day role involves dealing with Barclays employees that have broken machines. These machine can be either fixed directly upon their visit or they are able to raise a ticket to the relevant resolving teams to get their issues fixed

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have mainly learnt how develop my already pre existing technical knowledge base further in order to support the infrastructure at Barclays. This has been done through team training and through seeing users with various different issues. Managing the work load and dealing with work stresses has also been learnt

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The apprenticeship as a whole is generally enjoyable with many challenging tasks. I enjoyed the higher level of responsibility that is given to me within my role, however four years within a role that has been chosen for you is not always suitable. I think the possibility for change should be allowed, which has not been an option for me

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • From the very beginning of my apprenticeship, everything has been structured properly with correct deadlines and clear targets that need to be hit in order to progress through my apprenticeship. Although there has been information on increase of grade and pay, little information has been communicated about the specific dates and pay increases

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • When it comes to training there is sufficient support systems in place. Every 3/4 months there are appointments made between myself, my line manager and the university liaison tutor in order to check my progress and make sure everything is okay with my learning and degree throughout the course

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The nature of my role within the on-site support team means that there is little to no relevancy of my education to my actual job role. This can become a challenge when it comes to finding relevant projects for year 3+4, however I find that my role is something I am already education on therefore it is easy to carry on performing my role whilst working towards my qualifications.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yet again, due to the nature of my job and my position within the team I am unable to take part in many extra curricular activities. I am mostly concentrated on my job and day to day tasks. Besides this however, there alaways seems to be things going on that people can take part in

  • 9a. Would you recommend Barclays to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Very reputable company to work for and it is good to say you work for Barclays High quality of apprenticeship with great chance for progression Free education that can be utilised at all times of the apprenticeship The pay that Barclays apprentices get is competitive with other apprenticeships of the same level

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Barclays?
  • Make sure that when you are applying, look at what is required for the role and don't worry too much about technical knowledge. Explain the knowledge that is there but the main concern for employment is with regards to inter personal skills and how you are able to act in different situations. Stay confident but don't be cocky.
