  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am based in the Human Resources office for IT Services, carrying out many admin, recruitment and data entry duties. I also cover the reception desk 1.5 days per week which incorporate a lot of duties I already do. I also do 1 day a week in the Finance department, mainly working with paying and receipting invoices and also more data entry.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have definitely progressed and gained confidence using the telephone, face to face formal conversations and computer systems (Oracle and CoreHR). Also, my computer skills have advanced a lot: faster typing, more experience within Microsoft Office, formal emailing/letters. I have learnt to use the Finance system, Oracle, by using the training courses provided by the University.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy how varied my role is, as it is a 'Business Admin' role, there are many things that my department and team give me to have full responsibility over, and not just assisting them. I also enjoy how friendly of an environment it is, making new friends and having nice people to work along side.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The College's part of my qualification was more than satisfactory, there were very helpful and very on-time with feedback and info. My Manager has a very good grasp on how to progress through the role, sharing all of her knowledge into what I must do. I feel happy on where I have progressed to at the moment.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have completed my apprenticeship qualification now. - Whilst I felt college and work at the start was challenging, I overcame this thanks to my college assessor and coordinator. They were so helpful in fact that I completed the course 2 months earlier than expected. The teamwork between the college and the organisation was great.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I believe that the business admin coursework I completed, did very much help with my role. As I had to demonstrate what I was doing at work, it got me used to all of the processes and duties I would do on a day to day basis. My college assessor was very good at pointing out things that I could add in to the coursework that I would not have thought of on my own.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • In this organisation, as it is so large, have many clubs, events and sports teams. Such as, 11 - a - side football, running clubs, business conferences, informative University events and Open days. Many people have access to these as the University as a whole is very including and friendly to all employees.

  • 9a. Would you recommend University of Oxford to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The University as a whole is a very complex organisation, however the fast paced and busy side to it is what makes it so worthwhile. You want to work somewhere where you can express your work and flourish in your role. A big plus is that it is Oxford, one of the nicest cities in the UK.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to University of Oxford?
  • I would advise: Read the job description thoroughly, as the University isn't the same as any other company, there can be many underlying tasks or opportunities people wouldn't realise straight away. Before any university interview, make sure you have researched the university, what it does, the accomplishments it has made within the most recent years, and ideas of what is to come.
