  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role consists of monitoring and updating goverenance, supporting programmes as well as the project manager. Taking meeting minutes and arranging meetings. Updating risk and raids on a daily basis. I organise the financials for each programme I support. I make sure all resources working on each programme are able to book their time towards the programme so that the forecast is a true reflection.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme as it allows me to study and work at the same time I think learning and actioning what you are learning within your job role is very important as you are putting the information you are learning to use day to day. It also creates opportunties for individuals who did not want to attend university the standard way. I would recommend a degree apprenticeship to anyone who is looking to gain a degree and likes to work.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I would say my programme overall is organised and structured. In the first year of my degree there were 3 units within the degree, business systems, programming and web development. Within the business unit a 1000 word reflective assignment was added to this unit but was not planned. This was added on with 3 months to go of the end of the first year. I feel this wasn't communicated correctly and we were still having lectures on the previous assignment, which I found was hard to write as we had not had all the information. Web development was very well organised and structured. Both tutors were very helpful and approachable. Programming was very hard to follow and resources were not always accurate or correct, there were many mistakes on lecture slides and no real process on what code did and why. Our tutor assigned to us for university was well organisated. Our apprentice lead was sometimes hard to get hold of and sometimes you had to chase several times to receive an update. We now have a new apprentice lead and she is very organisated and approachable.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive good support from my line manager and my new apprentice lead. Some times I feel snowed under with the amount of work I have and having to juggle university work. My line manager if very supportive when it comes to taking time for university work when I have upcoming deadlines.

  • I recieve support from my liason tutor and have regular 1-2-1 meetings where my line manager also mostly attends. • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that my degree will be very beneficial to me throughout my career and any role that I move into. It improves your knowledge, professional and personal development, communication skills, and helps you to understand different areas as a whole and within a large business. I think learning as you work is the best way to achieve a degree.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I attend beach clean ups, work events such as hackathons, technology conferences, volenteer working for local charities. I also signed up to become a mentor and attended a college to deliver a programme. The programme was the tech innovation event and we had to pick one team to deliver a solution. We picked our favourite team and then they went to the finals of the competition and won.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Barclays to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I think that this is a great oppuntity to work for a large company with great benefits, values and opportunities. The degree apprentiship allows you to work and recieve a wage as well as studying at the same time with financial support from Barclays, as they pay for your degree. So you can acheive a degree without being in debt.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Barclays?
  • I would advise to learn all the values and find out about all the different roles within the technology space in the bank and get a feel for what interests you. This will help as you will be able to know what direction you would like to go. The assessment day is challenging, however pushes you.
