  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role involves the day to day coordination of releases throughout the year. This includes planning and internal communication with stakeholders throughout the business area. Alongside this, the role has other responsibilities including ensuring all the scope for the release is finalized early on allowing enough time for other teams to prepare.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have began a Degree in Digital Technology Solutions which has allowed me to begin to understand how to begin coding in Java, how to build a website using HTML and also enable me to further understand more into business studies and how businesses can develop. These skills in the future will be more transferable to my role.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Through the program, I have met lots of new people including the other apprentices on the intake, and also a lovely team. This means that there is always someone to speak to if needed. Overall, I really enjoy the Higher Technology apprenticeship programme and it meets all of my expectations.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The Technology Higher Apprenticeship is very well structured. During the academic year, there is one day a weeks worth of University attendance which allows a good amount of time to learn. There is also good links in support from management and university mentors allowing the university aims to be understood by the workplace.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There is a good amount of support from the employer. There is monthly one to ones, which includes discussions on how we are getting on. There are also designated mentors around the workplace which can provide you with support needed as well as other apprentices who you can speak to if needed.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • On the one day a week university attendance, there is constant support from the tutors if there are any problems. Both educational and general support are available. The time where we are not in university, we can email our tutors if we have any problems as well as people around the workplace who may have the skills set to help.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • There is a choice in the University Degree which is taken out of 4 pathways. The choice is usually decided on the job role ensuring that the University work is related to the workplace allowing theory to be put into practice. This similarity helps not only knowledge in work but also knowledge in university.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are many activities which you can get involved in at the work place. Many of these include sporting groups which can be joined. There are also professional talks which can be attended which are focused on various subjects. Around the site, there are many walks which you can go on if exercise is required during the day.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Barclays to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a friendly place to work, as all staff are easily approachable and any questions can be easily answered. There are also lot of different things that you can get involved in outside of work such as sporting activities. There are also company benefits which can be made use of.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Barclays?
  • Everyones process of applying to jobs and answering interview questions is different however remain confident in yourself and answer all questions honestly. Try to align yourself with the values and give examples of times you may have shown certain qualities. Ask lots of questions to show that you are interested and to help you learn more about the company and the roles.
