  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My day is usually different depending on the current tasks of the project. I myself are a contact point for the rest of CGI to get in touch with my team so it's my responsibilities to answer any and all questions asked by member of staff to resolve issues and improve our internal systems

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Since joining CGI I have gained a large array of various technical and business orientated skills. • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The program itself is enjoyable but is extremely hard work. You need to be 100% committed to your studies at all time in order to perform at both university and in the work place. Although this has been a struggle, overall the program will be rewarding and knowing what I know now, I would do it again.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The work side of things couldn't be better. I have been an important and functional member of any and all teams/ projects I've been involved In. The university side of things has been more difficult but this is due to all teaching being boiled down to 1 day a week. Being able to cope in these situations is essential to course completion.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Personally I have receive a lot of support from individual members on my projects, work friends and mentors. It really is about networking and building relationships in order to support yourself and others. CGI themselves give you the building blockes, it's up to you how you choose lay them out and develop yourself.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The support from Winchester is there if you ask for it. As mentioned before the small amount of teaching material makes it hard to understand everything without additional support. If you actively seek this out via email/ phone call, there is a decent amount of support. Again, it's really about what you do for yourself, do not wait for someone to help you.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Myself I've been on various roles that really haven't had a direct impact from the skills I've learned at university. However, university has taught my how to be an independent learner and how to be able to research and produced work to a high standard which is invaluable in the work place.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • All the time. These is a monthly scheduled sponsored degree student lunch which anyone can attend. Most students often spend breaks/ lunches together and there's also events outside of work to attend. In terms of worked based ones, there's almost always a networking event every few weeks to attend and improve your contact list.

  • 9a. Would you recommend CGI to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Not only would I recommend the company, I would recommend the program. Although it is extremely hard work, after the 3 years are up, you'll find yourself deep set into a large corporate company, 3 years work experience and a debt free degree. CGI are the best place to undertake a sponsored degree by far.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to CGI?
  • Learn about the company and it's success in recent and past years. Also research the good the sponsored degree has done and research/ get in touch on SOCIAL MEDIA! I think that would be impressive as the team does try to push their social media presence. Once you're in the door, work hard and enjoy it!
