  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I currently work as a Systems Administrator. On a day to day basis this typically involves creating or rolling out images to PCs for members of my project. I also regularly give members of my project solutions to problems they may be having and work out solutions to new problems that come up.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • As a Degree Apprentice I learn and develop many new skills in and out of work. I have improved my communication skills within the workplace as I have to interact with many different people. I have also improved my coding skills at University and in the workplace in the course of everyday work. Taking internal training courses has also helped me improve my awareness of security in the workplace.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am enjoying the programme as it teaches me many new skills which I can use in this and any future jobs. The people have all been very friendly and whenever I need help they are always happy to give it to me, and always make sure I feel at ease when working with them.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The induction to work and the initial training were all very structured, it was easy to find the training and the training itself was very useful. Weekly meetings with my mentor are very useful when I need any help with University or any clarifications. My project is well organised and I know the hierarchy of the team and who to go too if I need help or more work.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • From the very beginning my manager and members of the team have always been sure to let me know where to go or what to do if I need support. I know I could easily get help with any problems I am having from either members of my team, my manager, or one of the trained mental health first aiders.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • When working towards my degree I am supported by my fellow students and a buddy who has been through the course before me. The lecturers and module leader are easily accessible via email if I need any help or clarifications from them, or if I am having any problems on the course.

  • 9a. Would you recommend CGI to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend CGI to a friend as I loved the amount of support I have received here and how helpful my co-workers have been. I really enjoy the amount of extra-curricular activities available and the large emphasis on making sure everyone is happy and healthy with many resources available should you need help in those areas.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to CGI?
  • I would advise anyone applying to take in as much of the information given as possible, and take advantage of the opportunities that are presented to you. Try and enjoy any interviews and assessment days as much as possible and engage with any activities you are given. Have questions prepared you want to ask your interviewer, and research the company and University beforehand.
