  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My roles involve student recruitment, event organisation and project management for internal and external clients. This involves working with people across the business for their areas respectively, whether this be coordinating projects or interviewers for assessment centres. On a day to day basis, I consistently interact with my manager and team, as well as the stakeholders involved with the tasks being undertaken.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • As this is my first experience in an office environment, I have learnt how to build strong relationships across the business. I have also developed my abilities to work individually, or in a team, to deadlines and project restraints, and therefore in high pressure situations. This has helped me become a better rounded individual at the beginning of my career.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I very much enjoy the university side of learning alongside my working roles, enabling me to apply aspects I have learnt from each section into the other. This also provides me with a great range of academic and professional development opportunities, along with personal ones. I also enjoy cooperating and working with everybody involved with the programme with minimal conflict and stress.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme has a clear structure so that all of the degree apprentices completely understand exactly what needs to be done and when by. The teams, both at work and university, are always available for support, and organise the agendas very well. If there is every anything that I am unsure of, it is very easy to solve these issues.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employee provides me with a great range of support, including the student recruitment team, my workplace manager, mentor, buddy and team. This means that I always have somebody to speak to if I have any queries or concerns regarding work or my apprenticeship. This also helps build my development as I am able to construct a greater, well-rounded understanding of the organisation and teams I am involved in.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The University are always available to provide support for any queries I have, or problems I may come up against. This therefore enables me to achieve continuous development. Within class, module tutors ensure that everybody has a complete understanding of tasks, tailoring explanations to ensure everybody has a sound understanding.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • In most instances, the tasks carried out at University are able to be directly applied to the work I am undertaking, thus improving my performance within my role. It also provides me with a better understanding of the organisation which can be further applied. The modules that don't link to my current role provide me with a greater, wider understanding of the industry for better overall, comprehensive knowledge.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • For our Reading office, I organise and run weekly football matches, which as a result has improved my networking opportunities. I also regularly attend other social activities with members that I have worked/ currently working with, or that I have met through other networking opportunities. I am to continue attending and organising similar events for others to attend.

  • 9a. Would you recommend CGI to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The range of activities for development provide the best opportunity at the start of a career to improve and understand the company, industry, and ways of working. This is helped by the wide range of support provided, and the environment created within the company. This makes you feel like you are always involved and incorporated into the company.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to CGI?
  • When applying to CGI, I would recommend researching the company to understand what we do and the type of members we are to get involved with all of the opportunities available. This includes confidence working within individually, or in a team of people you don't know, whilst being innovative.
