  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am currently working as a digital business analyst in one of the technology teams. I work with software engineers who range from seniors to other apprentices and grads. I work with members of the team on my project to find out what the stakeholders want the product to be like.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a large number of new skills both technical and soft skills. These are skills which can't be developed outside of the workplace. They range from programming skills to how to write an email or act in front of a more senior member of staff. I am also still learning more.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme a lot due to the fact I really like my team. Everyone is very nice and gets on very well. I also spend a lot of time with the other apprentices which makes work a lot more enjoyable. I also enjoy earning money and being in such a professional career at so young.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure is complex as the apprenticeship is rotational so we swap into a new team every 9 months. The team we swap into doesn't have an apprenticeship structure so may have to create training/ work in order to train us. This will improve over time as teams find out what works best for apprentices.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support as the apprenticeship is set up with a structure where we have performance managers, advisers etc. Any queries or complaints I have are well received and acted upon seriously. Also, people in the team can answer or help with most problems I have anyway.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • BPP uni is all online so our lectures are webinars and on our study day we use the online resources. In my experience so far, bpp hasn't been the best structured scheme as they are unclear on dates/ deadlines etc. so I haven't asked for support as support from KPMG itself would be much better quality.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification (degree in digital and technology solutions) has modules which are closely related to what we use in work and vice versa. This makes doing the degree much easier and makes me more confident in work. eg we learnt about CRM's in our degree which is also very relevant in the workplace

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are loads of opportunities at KPMG to get involved further than you 9-5 job. Eg. we have a wider team networking and update session once a month, including a presentation, networking and drinks. There are also apprentice forums and catch-ups, as well as a lot of people going for drinks after work every Thursday.

  • 9a. Would you recommend KPMG to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • KPMG is a great company to work for as it takes care of its employees and will support you to have the most fulfilling career you can. It has so many opportunities to grow and network and people will support you to do this. KPMG also has a very friendly atmosphere.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to KPMG?
  • Be enthusiastic! They are not looking for technical skills - rather personality and drive. You must fit in to the supportive and inclusive environment here. It is very scary at the start especially if it is your first time in a large corporate office but just be confident and you'll feel comfortable in no time.
