  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I monitor and maintain services (24/7) for the public sector through computer special computer systems, making sure that they are up to date and working as intended and if they break I​ have to fix them ASAP. This role includes 12-hour​ shift work with 4 days on and off in rotation.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many new skills as well as developing previous ones as well. For example; communicating effectively with intent, presenting and speech skills, teamwork, time organisation, taking responsibility and creating new relationships with clients and colleagues​. These skills are essential for success in the workplace and also in real life as well.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my role at IBM, its extremely interesting but challenging. therefore I​ feel great satisfaction when I learn new things and implement them in my role without help. I feel that there is always something new to do or try with helps keep my role enjoyable every week.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I feel the programme as a whole is well laid out and structured but some parts could be better thought out, as some links are dead for certain parts of the apprenticeship and some courses need to be attended in person. but because I​ work to shift it can be hard to attend them.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a good amount of support from my employer with my apprenticeship and my work as well. Th​ey help to give me the material and assets needed for the completion of my work and apprentice work as well. This helps me to balance both parts of the apprentice and my role as well.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My EPM has really helped me to get my apprentice work on track by creating an excel sheet to track my work and organise it so that I know where I am with it at all times. they encourage me greatly to do my work and help to make sure it's​ to the best of my ability as well.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • ​The qualifications/training provided by the trainers has really helped me to excel in my role at IBM. The main skills that I use loads would be communication in business skills, this helps me to communicate with clients and colleagues through written emails and message to a professional standard. furthermore, I use communication on the daily as my role includes speaking with other departments to fix problems.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are many activities to get involved, but I can't do many because of my shift work. I do however get involved with playing football with the department. Other activities do include; the gym, many sports. activities, helping with recruitment/apprenticeship work e.g. assessment centres, varies training courses and many more which you'll see through emails.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Because it's a life-changing opportunity and the best thing I have ever done. you learn so much and it opens up so many doors for the future. The apprenticeship gets you into the working lifestyle and you are around people that support​ you and want to help you all the time. the environment is super friendly and you make so many new friends and relationships as well.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to IBM?
  • Make sure you do your homework. learn all the key trigger words on IBM and do your research into the business and their beliefs in order to get a good understanding of IBM and how they operate as a business. understanding the goals and objects of IBM will serve you well when in an​ interview or answering questions.
