  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is a Graduate Talent Specialist, I look after the end to end process for all of our grad and interns. I go to campus, networking and skill events for University students I also create assets for Job boards such as Target Jobs, Rate my Placement and many more. Another part of my job is to on-board all of the incoming UFLP's and Interns then look after them while they're in the business.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a variety of skills while at Unilever, I gained excel skills through creating dashboards and tracking data, I have gained interpersonal skills by meeting and presenting to people of all different levels and ages. My presentation skills are probably what I have improved the most in the sense of PowerPoint and also delivery of presentations.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my time on the Unilever apprenticeship programme as it gave me the opportunity to learn and work at the same time which I believe works best for me and my understanding. I have made so many new connections and friends while at Unilever due to everyone in the company being so friendly and social.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I believe my programme was a bit of an anomaly due to there being a lot of changes within my team meaning I had quite a few different line managers. When you join the programme you get a very thorough induction to make sure you understand everything you need for the programme and who is the right contact for what. I have training from BPP abd Unilever throughout me programme to make sure I was constantly developing. You line managers will always make sure you have enough time to study and complete your coursework as well as having regularly conversations with a tutor to insure you are never having issues.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • At Unilever every week you have a one to one with your line manager to check on your work load is appropriate and there is no issues. In terms of the HR team as I work in HR are an issues I would need to raise I already have the knowledge however, I know the team are always on hand to support.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I found that the BBP virtual learning environment was missing a lot of information I needed to complete the course work however, my Tutor was always available to support me and send me across the missing bits of information. I do feel like I learnt a lot about business and policies while on the course which came in handy with my role.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My role in HR uses a lot of the policies we looked at through the qualification especially when it came to data protection as this is obviously a very key part business in the current world. I also found learning about different IT programmes very useful as i use them in my day to day job.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are so many social events Unilever run as a company for example; the Christmas party, gym classes, yoga and my personal favorite the inter-function netball tournaments. The apprenticeship team also has ambassadors who organise nights out, dinners and things like tough-mudder. Depending what team you're in there are chances to volunteer, play football or play softball.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Unilever to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Unilever really invest in you and your career making sure you get the most out of your time there as possible the are constantly focusing on development and how to make you an your team stronger. As well as being developed I have met so many amazing people and made some really great connections/friends while being a Unilever.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Unilever?
  • Everyone always says it but I 100% believe in be yourself!! As sometimes you may not get a job because it not the right fit for you and you wouldn't enjoy it so what is the point in pretending to be someone else and ending up in a job you hate. Another this I vouch for is do your research make sure you know what the companies values and goals are then see if you can relate them to yourself.
