  • 2. What training and skills development did you learn from your work experience?
  • A Qualification in leadership was conducted as well as an improvement of my confidence in public speaking. Real world experience was also beneficial to my practical skills especially in the role involving spreadsheets as I had little experienced with this. The group work allowed me to push the boundaries of my comfort zone.

  • 3. To what extent did you enjoy your work experience?
  • I enjoyed this opportunity very much, it was very well organised and I looked forward to doing the tasks set for us as well as a friendly atmosphere fork the colleagues. It was fairly different than what I was expecting as I thought it was going to be dragging. The only negative was the long IT talk and personal issues with people who didn’t engage well in the experience.

  • It was very well organised as everyone knew what they were doing throughout the course. All the tasks were designed very well and kept the group entertained and engaged throughout the time. Allowed timetables and communication helped everyone to understand and engage with the experience more effectively as their was no confusion.

  • 5. How much did you learn about the company culture and what it would be like to work there?
  • I learned a lot about EY especially as I had no prior knowledge of the company or their business. The staff were very informative and took us on a tour as well as giving us a presentation and the visit to their London headquarters was very revealing. Work experience as an auditor and accountant were also very informative.

  • 7. Were you paid or reimbursed for this experience?
  • Yes, I was paid a very fair wage for this work experience which went towards my savings and the train tickets were paid for by the company who were very considerate throughout. Lunches, and on the last day, Chinese food, was also provided everyday which was a great extra feature.

  • 8. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees?
  • Yes, we had a rotation of employees at EY work with us or lead tasks on certain days. Some external people were brought in on the “dragons den” task and we had the opportunity to chat with them about their work including a former prison officer. They have stayed in touch with offers for further networking events in the future.

  • 9a. Would you recommend EY to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It was a vital experience for me and I definitely would have regretted missing the opportunity as it not only helped me become confident in my future choices (law) through public speaking but gave me a lot of practical skills for general life that education doesn’t necessarily offer to students.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
  • Don’t be nervous about any interviews and the people are massively friendly so it felt really comfortable. Try to speak up as it is a good opportunity to put ideas forward in an environment where there is no judgement. I would also say that making friends from the start is the best way to engage in the activities better.
