  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • working in tech systems my current day to day tasks generally consist of printing process control books, archiving those books when they are returned to us, submitting products for micro testing and submitting swabs from the factory and investigations. with micros comes a fair amount of responsibility as if they don't get sent and tested then its generally on me however other than that I have little responsibility and there is little variation in day to day activities

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • whilst working with bakkavor id say my communication skills and teamwork skills within my office have improved. I have definitely noticed a difference in the way I communicate to other members of the team when needing information or help, I have also found myself doing it more frequently too compared to when I started.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme somewhat, mostly for the interactions I have with other people in my team however the work itself is difficult t enjoy as I feel that 6 months in I'm not really making any progress and its just the same thing day in day out with no real future plan

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • id say my programme is very poorly organised as there's no on site leader for apprentices no one really knows what to do with me or what I should be doing. I don't know and nor does anyone else so its difficult to structure and organise a plan when no one has idea and I feel like more could be done about it

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • generally I don't receive a huge amount of support from my employer as I am generally left to do my day to day tasks, there is some support only when I request it and even then it isn't very consistent. when I raise issues they are rarely solved.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • for qualifications there is a decent network of support however this is all via email or calls, its difficult to receive the support i need sometimes as i prefer human interaction in some things i need the support on and its difficult to get that with the way the system for my qualification works

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • i don't feel that my qualification really contributes towards my work as it doesn't seem completely relevant to my work, a science course doesn't really relate to my day to day work and they do not compliment each other well at all and I'm unsure as to why I'm doing such a course if this is the case.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • as far as im aware i haven't been informed of any such things nor have i seen anything relating to this, if these were available then it is something that i would most likely be interested in however to my knowledge there are no examples i could give of this.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Bakkavor to a friend?
  • No

  • 9b. Why?
  • due to the generally poor quality of the apprenticeship and how it is run, no real structure or plan on how my time will be spent with the company, no one on site who really knows what i should be doing and generally just being dumped and left to do monotonous tasks day in day out with no sign of change even after raising the issue with managers .

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Bakkavor?
  • when applying i would make sure to ask for full details of what the day to day tasks and ultimate goal of the apprenticeship will be as i was given very little to go on when first starting and didn't receive the full details and support that i should have done.
