  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work within out in house recruitment department, keeping our staffing at the correct level. This involves: -daily meeting and greeting candidates -organising interview cover -standing in for some interviews -informing candidates of their outcome -collecting in all the necessary documentation from them to get them ready for our HR team to complete the onboarding process -answering queries by phone and email -keeping our stats/research up to date e.g. number of applications, interview outcomes, competitor awareness

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned a lot in my first year here. I previously worked in retail so it is a whole new function to me. This role involves a lot more interaction with higher managers in comparison to my previous role so it has really helped to build my confidence. This role involves a high level of organisation and problem solving so it has helped develop my time management and helped me become more efficient at work and manage a bigger workload than i've previously been used to.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I love my role within the recruitment team, i really enjoy the work, i find it interesting and i feel like our work is important and has an impact on the business so I get job satisfaction from it. My manager is brilliant to work with, she's so supportive and great at her job so it motivates me to work hard and learn more. I wasn't sure what to expect from the role as i've had no previous experience in it but i would definitely like to carry on my career in Recruitment.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Having online access to the One File is good to have as you can easily track your progress and any deadlines you have. I think the apprenticeship programme would be better organised and structured if there were local based tutors so they could visit more regularly and less of their time was taken up with travel. I get plenty of support at work from my manager and can always reach my tutor by phone or email but sometimes feel like the work set/when it's set isn't as organised as it could be.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Support i receive from work is fantastic. I feel like I could raise any issues I have with my manager comfortably. I get plenty of time and support with my everyday role and apprenticeship work. My manager always lets me know the best person to approach if i'm unsure of who i need to speak to if i need any work advice.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My tutor is always available to contact via email or phone if i need help but as mentioned above i think it would be beneficial if the tutors were more local so they could visit more regularly as sometimes it is better to go over queries in person. My tutor is always more than happy to help though whenever i have been in touch.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I think the qualification gives me a good idea of the wider recruitment function as a lot of the work is focused on external or 360 recruitment whereas we are in house recruitment. So whilst not everything will be relevant to what my day to day work involves, it does help to build my knowledge of the recruitment industry and helps generate ideas of elements from that side of recruitment that we could apply or adapt to use in our in house recruitment.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Within recruitment we do sometimes have the opportunity to attend job fairs type events to help attract applicants. I have also been involved in some team social activities including going for team meals and our Christmas event. I have also attended the AA awards, which was a brilliant event to be a part of. Other departments on site arrange their own social activities and sports teams which i could get involved with if i wanted to.

  • 9a. Would you recommend The AA to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I have really enjoyed working here, I find the work enjoyable, the culture and environment is friendly and positive and I really like the people that I work with. Its a well established and well known company and they have things in place to recognise hard working staff. Our site also does a lot of charity work and employee engagement activities.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to The AA?
  • Research the company and think about why you want to apply for that role in particular, why you want to join the company and why you would be the best candidate for the job. Make sure you are on time for any interviews and are friendly and approachable. Dress smart even though the office is non-uniform.
