  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a daily basis, I will talk to users of our project management tool and on-board their projects. I need to keep my manager updated with how many projects we have got in the system as we have key performance indicators to meet. I also work on another project in homecare, which is a new innovation.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have gained a Level 4 qualification that will help me with my future career in anything I decide to pursue due to its transferable skills. I have also taken part in Microsoft training internally, which are skills that are useful in every job, especially project management. Personally, I have also grown so much confidence within myself.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The company culture is always exciting as there's always something going on. I didn't expect this when I first started my apprenticeship and it exceeded my expectations. I enjoy being around passionate people who enjoy their work. My job role was quite different however to what I first imagined.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The induction onto my apprenticeship wasn't very detailed so I felt a bit overwhelmed at the start, as I felt as though there was a lack of organisation. The training provider didn't seem to talk to my managers at work, which I found difficult to bridge this communication.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We had regular check ups with the employment agency which was good to speak with someone unbiased. I was also really helped with when there was not enough support coming from my manager. I found having the opportunity to speak to someone about any problems very useful and made me feel more valued.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • There have always been trainers that were available to reach via e-mail if you needed any help and always made this clear. The trainer is always happy to come out to my workplace, which is reassuring to have this support. I found the structure of the programme hard to persist with, as our classroom lessons were far apart.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I personally found that what I learn in my apprenticeship qualification does not directly relate to what I do on a day-to-day basis. However I do see the things we learn about within the business environment. I have learnt a lot about a project management job role through completing my qualification.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are loads of extra-curricular activities going on. There are loads of different pillars that you can get involved with easily. There are also loads of sports that you can take part in, for example Pilates at lunch. Activities are always either on site or not far, so they are easily accessible.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Unilever to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Unilever is a company which has endless opportunities if you apply yourself and want to advance your career. I feel there are not many barriers to what you can do if you want to steer your job role in a certain direction. Unilever is such an interesting business to be a part of and you're always learning something new.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Unilever?
  • I would say to try and be confident in your abilities as this is what really matters. Prepare for your interviews in advance to help with this. On assessment days it is important to be yourself but to try and get involved and speak as much as possible, to showcase who you are.
