  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I looked after the Superdrugtalent social media accounts across multiple platforms, my team and I also looked after our internal social media platform called The Hub. I also did a lot of filming in and around Head Office to deliver different business key messages. Alongside this i obviously had to complete the apprenticeship coursework.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes. I learnt how to film and edit videos to a much better standard. This meant learning how to use new Software - Premiere Pro, Photoshop. ALongside this i also developed my skills with Microsoft packages. I also developed my people skills and general skills involved in general business environments which has really helped me to adapt to full time work.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I REALLY enjoyed my first year of work. I believe that i have adapted really well into working life and the apprenticeship allowed me to balance the daily work and the qualification. The coursework itself was interesting at some points but at others was quite boring as it was generic content that i wasnt interested in. Once i got to the topics that i was able to choose i found much more interesting as that was related to my job role.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I think the structure flowed quite well. Although the beginning topics were fairly generic and basic I felt that the more you progressed it got more 'difficult' and the structure naturally increased. On the other hand, i felt the physical folder that i needed to keep was structured in a really awkward and strange way. I would say that keeping my folder organised was probably my biggest challenge as i just didnt fully grasp how to do it. The work itself was simple enough and wasnt a challenge but the fact that i had to keep it in a specific order confused me a lot.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I got plenty of support from Superdrug. I felt as if Superdrug were always there if i needed them, whether it was the apprenticeship team, my team, other apprentices or my assessor. I am in the communications team so i have good connections with most areas of the business so i felt i could reach out to anyone if needed.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I didnt receive much support from them to be honest. I don't think i needed much help throughout, i think i grasped the idea pretty quickly. In the initial moments of the qualification i had plenty of help and didnt feel the need to go to the training providers.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I think it has helped me to balance my workload. It has meant that i am now better at prioritising workloads and performing to deadlines. In terms of knowledge, i dont feel like i learnt too much. Most of the units were pretty self explanatory and so it was just reinforcing what i already knew, until the end units as they helped me to delve a little bit deeper.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • yes there are plenty. I am lucky in my role that quite a lot of experiential events occur outside of work as well as inside work. This enables me to switch up my job role and not just do the same thing every single day. My team especially are quite good at doing activities outside of work.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Superdrug to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I am completely invested in working for Superdrug. At the moment i love it, i love coming to work and have really become accustom to superdrug life. I feel the, work hard - play hard atmosphere is perfect for me, it enables me to really push myself. it is also a chilled, free and fun environment which is also perfect. I love it.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Superdrug?
  • Superdrug allows you to bring your personality to the table. Unlike some other businesses it allows you to be you. Your attitude is arguably more important than grades and experience - within reason. It is a real credit to the company that the majority of staff all have the same sort of views and outlook which enables us to move in one direction.
